“Unacceptable,” I growl. “How long has that been happening?”

Meghan grew up with Morgan and I and we’re distant cousins. She went to culinary school in Wisconsin, but didn’t finish because she caught a pack’s eye. I wasn’t aware of the complications happening over time. Running away with a toddler is easier said than done.

“She won’t tell me,”Morgan whines. I can hear her sniffling, and I wince. Fuck, I need to dial down the crazy.“I want to seeif they can help her, Evan. Promise me you’re not going to hurt anyone in that building.”

“As far as I’m concerned, everyone who works or lives there is to be protected,” I promise her. “I want to know what she looks like when she’s completely immersed in things. Does she bite her lip, play with her hair? Please, Morgan.”

“Okay, okay,”she mutters. “You’re just as bad as your alpha boyfriends, I swear.”

Chuckling, I shake my head. “Nah, they’re much worse, Morgan. There’s a reason I’m here doing recon and not someone else.”

I have more free time, but I also have more patience than they do when I’m on the hunt.

“That’s up for debate,” she grunts.“Am I calling you after I’m done?”

“Yeah, that’s fine. Thanks,” I say. “Morgan? If Meghan needs help getting here, tell me. I’ll go get her.”

“Really?” she whispers. I want to put my fist through a wall that she would even ask. Taking a deep breath, I nod even though she can’t see it.

“I’ll be waiting for your call,” I remind her. “And yeah, if she needs it, I got her.”

I will also obliterate that entire sorry ass pack too.I may want to tie Aisling to a bed and make her scream for me, but I will never physically hurt her. She’ll fucking love every damn minute of what I do to her.

Beginning to pace, I mutter to myself. Domh must be rubbing off on me, because this frenetic expulsion of movement is usually his habit. Standing by the window, I watch the way cars drive past the building but never stop, and I grunt to myself as Morgan’s little red convertible does the same.

She turns down a side street, helping me realize there may be parking and an entrance that way.

I wait an ungodly forty minutes before her little car leaves the same way, and I finally get a return call. Forcing myself to keep my patience, I answer.

“Hey,” I greet her.

“I know I took forever,” she says in apology. “They needed all of her information so she could stay with them. I went through the paperwork with Aisling, who is a bombshell, by the way. Are you sure you want her?”

Chuckling, I shake my head. Morgan is bisexual and a flirt. I can see her scent matching with a female alpha. Her parents wouldn’t give two shits about it, and instead would ask her when the wedding was. She lucked out with them.

“Oh yeah, Morgan,” I say. “I managed to bump into her on one of her errands, and got a close up experience of how gorgeous she is. She’s definitely mine. I've already had a wet dream about her and everything.”

I forwarded a photo to my phone yesterday, and now can’t get my dick to behave.

“Ew, Evan,” she groans.“Fine, you win. Aisling is one of the most authentic people that I’ve ever met. I felt calmer as she talked to me, and I know Meghan and her baby are going to be in good hands. I’m just really worried about her.”

“Does she have her phone on her?” I ask.

“Yeah, she does. What do you need me to do?” she asks.

“Ask when she’s planning to leave,” I tell her. “Explain who I am and that I’m going to be her ride. Do not tell her I’m going to leave none of those fuckers alive, yeah?”

“Okay,” she breathes. “Good. I don’t want them coming after her and the baby.”

“Me either,” I say. “Text me when you have something for me.”

“Thanks, Evan,” Morgan says before hanging up.

Shaking my head, I raise a prayer in thanks that my cousin didn’t decide to go get her alone. I don’t care if she comes with me, but Morgan is wild and gets in over her head easily. Swallowing hard, I begin to text Morgan when I notice Aisling’s car leaving. Shoving my phone in my pocket, I sprint for the fire escape.

“Fuck,” I mutter as I half run, half ride the rails. My vehicle is hidden in an alley, and I jump in to follow her. I catch her at the next stoplight.

There’s a note on her calendar that saysRagebut no address. It can mean so many things, which means I have no choice but to tail her. I have to tap out soon to escort Cian’s grandparents, though.
