Her eyes widened, and she turned to Fearghas as he approached the car loaded down with the bags they were taking to the hospital in Zurich. “Uh, Fearghas.”

He smiled. “Aye, mo ghràdh.” When he saw the look on her face, his smile disappeared. “What?”

“This isn’t a false alarm.” She glanced down at the puddle on the ground. “My water just broke.”

Fearghas’s eyes grew wide. “Bloody hell. It’s go time.” He threw the bags into the back seat of the car next to the brand-new infant car seat. Then he jumped into the driver’s seat, started the car and slammed the gearshift into drive. He was halfway out of the driveway before he slammed on the brakes, shifted into park, jumped out and came back to where she stood with her hand on her belly, laughing.

The laughter turned to a grunt as another pain ripped through her uterus.

Fearghas helped her to the car, settled her into the passenger seat and buckled the belt below the baby bump. Then he kissed her forehead. “I love ye more than you’ll ever know.”

“I love you, too, Fearghas Gordon, but if you don’t get me to the hospital, you’ll be delivering this baby in the car.”

He ran around the hood and dropped into the driver’s seat.

“This is what happens when we don’t use protection,” she muttered as another wave rushed over her. “Oh, my.”

“Oh, my?”

“Oh, my.” She gripped the armrest. “Too late for the hospital. The baby’s coming now. Help me into the back seat.”

“Are ye kiddin’ me, lass?”

“What part of now don’t you understand?”

He leaped out of the car and ran to her side, yanked open the door and helped her to her feet.

She bent double, the pain sharp with the added pressure of the baby moving into the birth canal. “It’s coming.”

Cars screeched to a halt in the street.

Someone yelled, “Is she having the baby now?”

Fearghas called out over his shoulder, “Yes!”

Catya was in too much pain to look up. She had to focus on getting into the back seat.

Fearghas led her around the door, then dove into the back seat and threw bags and the car seat out onto the ground.

“Hurry,” Catya said through gritted teeth.

Once the back seat was clear, Fearghas eased her onto her back.

Ace and Jasmine appeared and hovered close by.

“How can we help?” Jasmine asked.

“Just get this baby out,” Catya said.

“I’ve never delivered a baby,” Jasmine said a worried frown on her forehead.

“Neither have I,” Ace said.

“Step aside,” Dmytro stepped up to the car. “Fearghas, go around to the other side and get in behind her to help her sit up and push.”

Fearghas ran to the other side of the car, climbed in and slipped his arms beneath Catya’s back.

With Dmytro calling the shots, Lucie, Ace and Jasmine telling her to breathe and Fearghas holding her throughout, they delivered beautiful baby Gia.

Catya shed tears of pure joy as she held her precious baby in her arms, marveling at the soft orange peach fuzz across her head. Her heart was full of love for her baby, her husband and her extended family of Brotherhood Protectors.

She couldn’t stop smiling. It had taken a team to deliver her baby. Her team. They would always have her back and look out for the team’s newest addition.
