The second he finished twitching in my mouth, he pulled me up and planted me on his face.

I moaned as his tongue speared me.

“Turn me around,” I said. “I want to show you something.”

He spun me around on his face, and when I leaned forward to take him into my mouth again, he made a sound like he’d just discovered Santa was real.

The man was a machine and would have been happy to stay like that forever. I had to tap out first, though. After a long night with frequent intervals of pleasure, I didn’t have the energy or strength to keep going.

He didn’t get angry that I asked for a break. Instead, he washed me like he had the day before and fed me again, watching me like I was the most precious thing in the world.

“I like this,” I said between bites.

“I will make this for you every day,” he promised.

I studied him.

“Not the food. This. Us. What if I told you I didn’t want to leave after the experiment was done?” I asked. “That I wanted to keep living with you, being together like this.”

He paused with the fork halfway to my mouth.

“I would be very happy,” he said. “I do not want to let you go, May. But if you want to leave, I will not force you to stay.”

I smiled and took the next bite from him, wondering if he understood how important that was to me. The man before me was something I never thought I’d find. Understanding. Kind. Gentle. Adoring. Loving.

“Good,” I said. “And I do like the breakfast you made. I just like you more.”

He blinked at me. It was something I’d noticed the fey did a lot whenever they were confused and didn’t know how to answer. Eden told me Ghua sometimes did it when she gave him an answer he didn’t like. Such as no sex for the rest of the day.

So, was he confused, or did he not like my interest in him?

“A word of advice for the future women you run into. If you don’t want them to like you, don’t wash their hair for them, makethem meals, rub their backs… Maybe they won’t fall as hard for you as I did.”

“Fall?” he echoed with another blink.

I was definitely picking up confused vibes. Stealing the spoon from him, I set it aside and held his hands. His thumbs immediately began caressing the backs of my hands.

“I like you, Hejun. I like the way you wash me. The way you cook for me. The way you touch me. It’s comforting and shows me how much you care. And I like the way you watch me, seeing every little thing. You don’t see my flaws but my beauty. In your gaze, I feel treasure beyond measure.”

“You are,” he said.

“And so are you. I’ve been with men who have treated me like garbage. I know what Idon’twant. You’re what I want, Hejun. You. I like you so much that I want to stay with you after this experiment is over. If you’ll have me.”

His gaze dipped to our joined hands. I could see the disbelief he was trying to hide.

“I think you’re worth loving for a lifetime, Hejun.”

CHAPTER TWELVE

HEJUN

Hope bloomed in my chest, tightening it painfully.

Maylikedme.

After months of watching her, yearning for the day that she would find joy in living again, she had. And it was because of her time with me. A smile tugged at my lips as I looked up at the beautiful woman sitting on my lap.

“I never want you to leave,” I said.
