Chapter 24 - Owen
I saw red as I drove, going way above the speed limit on the way, hoping I was getting there in time. I kept resaying the address in my head over and over.
I wanted to kill him. The snake knew what to do to get to her, and I didn't do my job of protecting her. I just hoped I was getting there in time.
I still couldn't believe her father gave her up like that. I knew that Ayden would have more than a few words to share with him about everything.
I turned down the main road, taking a gravel road. I felt the hair on my arms stand up, knowing I was in another pack territory. If I didn't tread carefully, this could go wrong.
I pulled up to a large cabin and took the space in. It was a charming house, but I knew what happened inside. Logan was smart enough to look the part and knew how to hide evidence of his evil side.
I felt my nails dig into the steering wheel, and I stared at the windows, waiting for someone to walk by. There were only a few windows, and they all looked like they were pretty secure.
I stared at the door. It was pretty sturdy looking back, but that wasn't going to stop me.
My phone dinged, and I knew it was Ayden. He's sent five other messages warning me to remain as calm as I could until he arrived. While Logan was in the wrong, I was alone in another pack's territory. It could get bloody quickly.
I knew his point, but I didn't see anyone else. I didn't feel anyone else besides Logan and Ashley.
Feeling her connection calmed me a little, but not enough. I was still gonna start shit. The fucker deserved it after all of this.
I got out of the truck and headed to the door. I could have knocked, but I didn't. Instead, I pulled my leg up and kicked the door as hard as I could. I kicked it three more times before the door gave away and swung open.
Inside, I found Logan standing by the kitchen. He turned his eyes, narrowing at me with anger.
"Where is she?" I growled, taking a step into the house.
Logan moved, going around the couch toward me. "I think you’re far from your home here, Beta." He growled beta like it was an insult, but I didn't let it affect me.
"Don't think I won't kick your ass," I snapped back quickly. "I would love nothing more than to snap your neck."
Logan laughed, but my eyes went to the stairs where Ashley stood. She looked absolutely terrified but unharmed, which filled me with relief. I'd made it in time before anything could happen.
While my eyes were up, Logan took the opening and charged at me. We both flew backward, and I slammed hard into the wall. The entire room shook as Logan pulled his hands up, clawing at my face.
I shoved myself free, taking a step backward towards the doorway.
Logan stood with a smirk, "How about we end this now, hmmm? Best one wins the girl."
He charged again, this time shifting as he charged at me. I quickly stepped back, shifting as his dragon slammed into mine. The entire ground shook from the impact of his body slamming against mine.
We tumbled outside, removing a tree and leaving it in splinters behind us. I could hear Ashley yelling, but I was not sure what she was saying.
I was thrown hard onto the ground as Logan took the upper hand and pinned me. I tried to get free, but I felt Logan's claws sink into my side and his teeth ripping at my shoulder. I cried out, shoving my wing into his neck and shoving him off me.
I panted for air, feeling pain radiating over my entire form, but I tried to shake it off. I needed to focus. I had to stay focused. Ashley’s life depended on this.
He charged again, not giving me a chance to catch my breath. He slammed into me, knocking me down again, and the entire ground shook once more.
"Back down, Beta!" he growled at me, pulling a clawed hand towards my wing. I quickly moved out of the way and charged at him.
"Over my dead body," I said, slamming him into another tree, and it broke, snapping in half. Dirt kicked up all around us, and I used it to slink back and take a breath.
He swiped his tail at me, and I jumped up allowing it to just miss me. I took a few steps away, and he circled me like he was hunting. I took in his dragon, knowing he was larger than me.
"You won't win. And when I'm done with you, I'm going to take her and have my way with her tonight while you’re body is out here in the dirt."
I growled, keeping my eyes locked on him. I knew he was trying to piss me off and get my anger to make me makea mistake. But I wasn't going to allow it. I needed to remain focused.
