Finally, Fynn, the team’s healer, offers her a gentle smile. “It’s good to have you here, Rayne. Blade’s been different since he found you. It’s nice to see him like this.”

Rayne glances up at Blade, her heart swelling at the sight of him surrounded by his brothers. She can see the bond they shared, the loyalty and trust that went beyond words. She knew she was stepping into a new world, but she also knew she wasn’t alone.

After the introductions, Blade leads Rayne to a room they had prepared for her—a cozy space with a bed, a small desk, and a window that looks out over the mountains. He stands in the doorway, watching as she takes in her new surroundings.

“It’s not much, but it’s safe,” he says, his tone apologetic.

“It’s perfect,” she replies, turning to face him. “Thank you, Blade. For everything.”

He steps forward, wrapping his arms around her as he holds her close. “I’m just glad you’re here. I couldn’t stand the thought of you out there, vulnerable.”

She rests her head against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. “I feel safe with you. I know this is all new, but I’m ready for it. Whatever comes, I’m ready.”

They stand together for a long moment, enjoying the quiet, before Blade pulls back, his gaze serious. “We still have to deal with Rake. The others and I will be meeting tonight to discuss our next move. I want you to stay here, where it’s safe.”

Rayne nods, her heart pounding at the thought of the dangers that lay ahead. But she knows she is in the right place, surrounded by people who will protect her no matter what.

Later that night, Rayne is sitting in the common room, sipping a cup of tea as Blade and his brothers gather around the map on the central table. She watches as they discuss their plan, their voices low but intense, each one contributing ideas and strategies as they work together seamlessly.

“We know Rake’s next move will involve the Crossroads,” Gage reiterates, tracing a line on the map. “He needs that power source to complete the ritual.”

“We’ll need to set up an ambush,” Reed adds, his eyes sharp. “If we can catch him off guard, we might be able to cut him off before he even gets close.”

Soren nods, his expression grim. “But we have to be careful. He’s got followers, and they’ll be expecting us.”

Blade glances over at Rayne, his gaze filled with determination. “No matter what happens, Rayne, we’ll keep you safe. I promise you that.”

She smiles, feeling a surge of confidence in their unity, in the strength of the bond they all share. Together, they would face whatever dangers came their way, and she knew that with Blade and his brothers by her side, they could overcome anything.

As the night deepens, Rayne felt a sense of belonging she hadn’t known before. She was part of something larger now, a world filled with shadows and light, with dangers and courage. And as she looks at Blade, she knows that she is exactly where she is meant to be.

BLADE 6

Over the next few days, Rayne settles into headquarters, gradually finding her place within the fortress-like compound. The Elite members are often away, handling missions or gathering intelligence, but when they are there, they make her feel welcome. Despite their imposing appearances, she finds them warm and surprisingly easy to talk to, each one with his own distinct personality.

Rayne quickly learns that Gage, with his quiet authority, is a natural leader, guiding the others with a steady hand and a calm that reassures her. He will often stop by to check on her, offering advice and occasionally sharing stories from his past. One afternoon, he brings her tea and sits with her in the common room, speaking in his deep, steady voice about the battles they’d faced over the years.

“Blade’s a good man,” Gage confesses, giving her a rare, soft smile. “He’s different now that you’re here. I’ve known him a long time, but I’ve never seen him like this—protective, but at peace.”

Talon, on the other hand, was the jokester of the group. He would often tease her, making light-hearted remarks that kept her laughing, easing the tension of her new life. He is also fiercely protective, often reminding her not to wander off without one of them nearby. “The last thing I need,” he jokes one evening, “is Blade going berserk because I let his mate out of my sight.”

She also finds herself connecting with Kade, the quiet giant, who has a soft spot for nature and will sometimes bring her wildflowers he finds on his patrols. She appreciates his gentleness, the way he seems to understand her need for peace amid the chaos.

Reed and Soren take it upon themselves to teach her some self-defence moves, insisting she know how to protect herself. Though their sessions are intense, they manage to make her feel stronger, more confident. “You’re tougher than you look,” Soren confirms with a grin after one particularly gruelling session. “Blade got himself a fighter.”

Fynn, the healer, is often there to provide comfort when she feels overwhelmed, his soothing presence and kind words helping her to adjust. “You’re part of the family now,” he assures her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “We look out for our own.”

Each interaction makes Rayne feel more connected to the team, as if she were becoming a part of their close-knit world, and it wasn’t long before she began to feel at home.

Among the Elite, Scar had always been Blade’s closest confidant. Rayne found herself naturally drawn to him, sensing the deep bond he and Blade shared. Scar had a rugged charm, with a quick wit and a protective nature that reminded her of an older brother. He often had a teasing grin and a glint in his eye, though she could see the seriousness lurking beneath his playful exterior.

One afternoon, she finds Scar in the training room, sharpening a knife with a level of focus that speaks to his years of experience. He looks up as she enters, flashing her a grin. “Well, if it isn’t our newcomer. How are you holding up, Rayne?”

She returns his smile, taking a seat on a nearby bench. “Better, thanks to all of you. This place is... intense, but I feel like I’m finding my way.”

“Good,” he replies, his gaze softening. “You know, we were all a bit surprised when Blade brought you here. But seeing you two together, it makes sense. He’s different with you around. Lighter, I guess you could say.”

Rayne nods, warmth spreading through her chest at his words. “He means a lot to me. I know this world isn’t easy, but I want to be here, with him—and with all of you.”
