When the paramedics entered the room, I started crying even harder, seeing how her body was emptying with each second passing by.
She was lost.
And so was I.

MAKSEN
As I was getting closer to the church where the McKnight’s were always attending the Sunday Service, I felt my blood boiling inside my veins.
The awful things they did with the children they’ve bought reverberated inside me like a poorly sung song. They deserved what was about to come more than anyone else, and I wanted to make sure they felt all of it deep into their bones.
I pressed the gas pedal slower as I reached the front of the church. I dropped my hand to my pants’ pocket and took out the gun I was so damn ready to use. I stopped the car and made sure to attach the suppressor to my gun so the sound of the shot wouldn’t bother anyone — not that I’ve cared for it anyways.
The powerful voice of the priest could be heard even from here, and I could only let my gaze rise to the sky and try to understand why people like them preached God so much. Going to the service very Sunday didn’t exactly go hand in hand with molesting children and taking advantage of any vulnerable soul existing.
Colorful laughter started to be heard and I knew that those were Killian’s younger sisters. I knew they always came out first.
And I also knew that Killian was following them, screaming that they should’ve waited inside until he told them that they could go.
That was it. Every little move of his was already anticipated by me and my people. But my moves were never going to be anticipated by any of his people, because I was better than them.
Before I made sure that the black coverage I had on my head was hiding every little detail that could’ve revealed who I was, I rolled down the car window and put the pistol on the edge of it.
Killian stepped out of the church, and I pulled the trigger with such force that the only thing I could see after that was the blood gushing from his chest and the red drops that now covered the faces of his younger sisters.
They were all screaming in terror.
And I was smiling with triumph.
I instantly drove the car away, pushing the gas pedal to the ground until I made a sudden turn to the left, then to the right and continued until the road would end on the edge of the biggest hill of the city. That’s where I saw the helicopter already waiting for me and I was prepared to receive all of Lukyan’s congratulations for doing another job just as he wanted me to do.
With a strong movement, I pulled the chain connected to the gas pedal and finally got the car’s wheels going at such speed that nothing could’ve stopped it — maybe just the abyss into which it was about to fall.
I opened the door and jumped out of the car, rolling over the ground and feeling how each stone was hitting the scars on my body. It hurt, but it also felt good.
The car went straight off the edge of the cliff while I immediately stood up and ran to the helicopter. Its propellers started spinning faster as I took a seat and put the belt over myhips, but the moment I turned around to meet Lukyan’s gaze, all my eyes met was an empty seat.
I furrowed my brows, taking the headphones from their stand and putting them on my head to have a talk with the pilot. As soon as I turned on the microphone, I started thinking of anything bad that could’ve happened and made Lukyan not come here.
“Where’s Lukyan?”
“We’re going to their house, Mister Brown. Miss Katya is in the hospital. Once we get to their house, you’ll receive the next orders from Lukyan.”
He explained briefly and each of his words made me realize that something really bad happened. And worse, there’s something wrong with Katya. As much as I tried to be proud of what I’ve just done, I couldn’t. There were so many questions coming up in my mind and I wasn’t prepared to try and find an answer to each of them.
I didn’t even realize the moment we landed at Makenova's mansion. Once we stepped down the stairs and got inside the house, I inhaled deeply, enjoying the familiar scent of this damn building.
I could sense Annalise's fragrance somewhere in the atmosphere and I felt tingles starting at the ends of my fingers.
It felt like I’ve been trapped into a curse now that I was heading towards the living room, where the scent became even stronger. And that was when I noticed Annalise’s jacket thrown on the sofa.
It was the same one she wore at the cabin. I looked around to make sure no one was watching me and as soon as I took it between my fingers, I brought it closer to my face and closed my eyes, inhaling the scent so deeply I almost fainted due to the pleasure I felt in that moment.
My Annalise.
The vague sound of hurried footsteps heading towards me made me throw the jacket back on the sofa and act like nothing actually happened
