Benjamin scowled. “Are you getting sick?”
“No.” I shook my head.
“You better not be. I need you to be in top health when we get you out of this place. I have to get back to work and need you by my side from now on and do what you need to do once you learn how to behave again. Understand?”
Of course, I did. Getting his drink from the bar, I forced myself to turn away before he could see just how irritated I was with him.
I froze.
My heart raced, there standing right across the room was someone perhaps that made my heart stop faster than Benjamin Davinson.
“I think I need to use the restroom," I said.
"You think?"
"I need to use the restroom."
Benjamin huffed. “Go.”
I quickly scuttled off towards the other side of the room where the restrooms were, making sure that I didn’t look back as I did this time, trying to make my steps smooth and unhurried though all I wanted to do was run.
Because the alpha I just saw was the one and only…
Demetri Prestford.
Chapter
Eighteen
ELLA
Walking into the bathroom, I looked at myself in the mirror, counting a few seconds before I turned right back around.
He saw me leave the room. He had to have followed.
I trusted that he’d follow.
And I wasn’t wrong.
Out in the hallway, Demetri stood there standing in front of me.
There he was. My alpha. My lead alpha that I was torn away from. The one that made me promises and said I was perfect for his pack. That I was a perfect omega. That I could be his.
If I wanted to be.
And I had. Oh, I had.
And I thought, I still wanted to be.
But he stood there, steps away, just staring at me.
I almost didn’t believe it at first. He was here! He was here in the courting room for the event and he looked at me. I was right not to give up. I knew it.
I knew it.
My hands trembled at my sides, the silence between us heavy with unspoken words and unresolved emotions.
Demetri's gaze bore into mine, searching for something I wasn't sure I was ready to reveal. A surge of memories flooded back, of whispered promises and stolen moments that now felt like fragile dreams hanging by a thread.
