He chuckles. “There’s nothing on your face, Angel. But those noises you were making sure were heavenly.”
“In my defense, I haven’t eaten today.”
He waves me off. “Don’t be embarrassed. We like a girl that can eat.”
“Good, because I could definitely eat my weight in chili cheese fries.”
Kaos motions toward me with his fork. “What were you doing at the lake?”
I shrug. “That’s my spot, and it’s peaceful there. Sometimes I need to clear my head from all the clutter. It had been a rough couple of days.”
He nods. “I can see that. We were only there for a few hours and it was quite serene.”
“What about you? Why venture into the woods?”
“We heard it was the only fun thing to do around here,” he says.
“Yeah, and they were right. This town is a freaking bore.”
“True, but we enjoy the outdoors,” Kaos continues.
Men after my own heart. When you grow up poor and in the country, the outdoors become your best friend. The possibilities are endless if you have an imagination. Which I do. I’d rather spend a day in a cabin in the woods over the beach any day.
Dante reaches over to snatch one of my fries from my red-checkered boat and I smack his hand away, making him accidentally drop the fry on the table.
“Are you trying to lose a hand?” I snap, incredulity tingeing my tone. Nobody touches my food. Nobody. “And look, you wasted a perfectly good french fry!”
He extends a hand to snag another one but promptly snatches his hand back when I almost stab him with my fork. He dares to chuckle at me. I make sure to give him my best stabby eye.
“Easy now, Angel. I just want a taste.”
I open my mouth to reply when suddenly my left shoulder blade twinges, sending a sharp pain shooting through me that slowly crawls toward my spine. When a quick survey of the area doesn’t reveal anything out of the ordinary, I almost turn around and dismiss the feeling as a fluke, but my intuition is never wrong. I may ignore it sometimes, but that always results in something biting me in the ass. Then I spot a familiar face behind my left shoulder.
Elian. His emerald green eyes seem to glow brighter when they connect with mine, spearing me from across the expanse of tables. He’s not alone either. A beautiful girl with long auburn hair and model-worthy legs wraps her tiny arms around his neck and kisses his cheek. A hot pang of possessiveness shoots straight through my heart.Jesus, get a grip, Sadie.I scold, shoring up my defenses. Who cares if you feel the same tingles around him as you do Kaos and Dante?
Two dicks are enough.
Elian’s tattooed fingers grip her chin, as if to remind her who’s in charge.
Holy hell, if only if that was me. No. Bad libido! Haven’t you learned your lesson with assholes yet?
Elian surprises me by shoving the girl backward. She trips, arms flailing in the air. Her heels get caught in the grass then she falls to the ground, flat on her ass. Although, she recovers surprisingly fast, clambering to her feet then dusting her gorgeous mini dress off. Her heels are worse for wear though, and she takes them off, grimacing when her dainty foot touches the bare ground.
He says something to her that makes her lip curl and her gaze lands on mine, zeroing in like a shark does a fish it’s about to devour. Then her eyes flick between the three of us, and understanding dawns on me.
It’s not only Elian she’s after.
I turn my back on them before I do something stupid, like go over there and gouge her eyes out with my fork. Or lick him. I’ve heard that if you lick something, it becomes yours. Maybe I should go ahead and lick Dante and Kaos. For good measure, of course.
The little fires dancing across my back clue me in that Elian’s eyes are on me once again, but I can’t find it in me to care. Kaos shoots me an indecipherable look before searching the crowd with those sharp eyes of his. When he sees them, his hands curl into fists and he crushes his drink cup, spilling the alcohol down his fingers.
Trying to expel the tension that’s riding the air, I clear my throat but it’s pointless. Neither Dante nor Kaos are paying attention. They’re too busy glaring at their buddy and the hot chick.
Eventually, Dante’s attention returns to the present and he places his hand on my knee under the table. Kaos’s eyes narrow before laying his own on my other side. My skin crackles from the intensity of both of them at once and I suck in a gasp.
Dante smiles deviously. “Tell me something, Angel.”
I shiver from their combined closeness. If only we were alone...
