“Thank God,” Lexie breathed. “I appreciate it, doctor.”
He smiled. “Just take it easy. It might be a good idea to get off your feet for a few days.”
Lexie nodded, and the doctor left.
“I’m serious, Lex,” I told her. “I don’t want you to work anymore.”
“Okay,” she said quietly, just as I was teeing up to argue some more.
“Wait, what? Okay?”
“Okay, Ollie,” she said, smiling a little. “I’ll quit. But you’ll have a hard time finding someone as good as me to take my place,” she said proudly, squeezing my hand.
“You’re one of a kind, that’s for sure,” I murmured, bringing her hand to my lips, and kissing along her knuckles.
She kept smiling at me and I considered that a win. As much as I hated that asshole showing up and scaring her, I was relieved she was all right and glad she was talking to me. Glad she was letting me touch her.
The nurse came in with the discharge papers and I helped Lex get up and dressed. I wanted to carry her out to the car, but something told me she wouldn’t allow that, so I just held her hand tightly, pulling her close to me.
“Take me home,” Lexie said as we got into the car, and I nodded in agreement. When I pulled up to the cabin, however, Lexie didn’t immediately get out when I opened her door.
“Lex?”
“Come inside,” she said quietly. I helped her get out of the car and followed her wordlessly, having no idea what was going on.
She unlocked the door, and we went inside. I closed and locked it behind us.
Lexie turned to look at me then, her green eyes wide and wet with unshed tears.
“I’m sorry, Oliver,” she whispered, the tears spilling out and down her cheeks.
“Oh, honey.” I put my hands on her shoulders. “None of this was your fault. Not a single moment of it.”
“Not just about tonight,” she insisted, sniffling. “But... everything. I shouldn’t have dismissed you when you told me how you felt. When you apologized.”
“What are you saying?” I stuttered, hope starting to take flight in my stomach and chest. My heart clenched.
“I’m saying that I love you too, Ollie. I always have. I always will.”
I searched her face, looking for any kind of hesitancy, and found none. She looked up at me with wide eyes.
“I forgive you for what happened back then. Can you forgive me for how I’ve acted lately?” she asked shakily.
“You’re serious, Lex? You?—”
“I love you,” she said fiercely. “I’ve always been in love with you since the moment we met. I never stopped. I thought about you every single day while we were apart?—”
I cut her off by grabbing the back of her head and pulling her close to kiss her passionately.
The kiss was rough and sudden, and when I touched her, my fingers barely touched her skin, only wanting to love her, to cherish her.
Lexie pulled away from me after a moment but when I started to protest, she took my hand with a small smile, leading me to the bedroom.
She began to undress slowly, and I couldn’t help but admire her as the goddess that she was. I worshipped the ground she walked on. I loved her so much I didn’t know what to do with it, didn’t know how to say it.
“Lexie,” I mumbled as she finally stood bare before me, her belly swollen, her breasts bigger than before. “You’re so beautiful.”
She flushed slightly, pouting, and pulling at my shirt. I took it off with one hand, already growing hard from the way she was looking at me.
