“Cade,” Sheridan moved, stretched felt a little ache but nothing like it might have been. Her ankle still hurt but that was to be expected.
“Right here,” he said, coming from the kitchen. “Do you need anything?”
“A large plate of whatever smells so good,” Sheridan smiled sitting up. She banged her ankle and winced.
“Back,” he asked reaching for the scanner.
“Ankle. Everything else feels fine,” she said. She started to shift.
“Tell me what you want,” he said pushing her back.
“A t-shirt,” she said.
“Let me see your back,” he said.
“It’s fine,” she said. “You did a good job with the wand.” She leaned forward to allow him to see. He reached across her, grabbed one of his t-shirts.
“This one isn’t tight,” he said. A timer went off. “Be right back. Don’t move a lot.”
“Are you fussing over me,” she said smiling. It was sweet.
“Yes,” he admitted. “I don’t know if you’ll like this.”
“It smells heavenly,” Sheridan said.
He handed her a plate with a slice of ham, scalloped potatoes, and falger sprouts which were like a thin carrot. “I love falger sprouts. I thought you didn’t do fancy,” she smiled at him.
“This is as fancy as it gets,” Cade said. He sat facing her. He needed to look at her. He needed to hold her, love her gently but looking would do until he was sure she was ready for the rest.
She took a bite of the ham. “What did you season it with,” she asked.
“Is it awful,” he asked chewing his.
“It’s delicious,” she said. “I’ve only ever eaten simulated. Where did your sister get this? Who do we have to kill to get more?”
“She has her sources and I doubt she’ll share,” Cade said relieved.
“What’s in this,” she asked tasting the potatoes.
“Onions, garlic, potatoes, white sauce,” Cade said. “I told you simple food.”
“I may have an orgasm eating your simple food,” she said eating every bite.
“There’s more,” he said watching her enjoy the meal.
“We can reheat for lunch tomorrow,” she said. “You better not eat it all for a midnight snack.”
“Once,” he smiled. He’d eaten the last piece of lasagna a few months ago. She still grumbled about it.
“Did you use the whole ham,” she asked.
“I cooked it, but I have a soup dad used to make which I plan to make tomorrow for dinner,” he said. “I’ll put it to slow simmer in the morning.”
“It will drive me crazy all day smelling this good,” she asked.
Cade grinned, “Probably. Done?”
“You cooked, I should,” she started to move.
