Especially the demanding lover who couldn’t keep his hands off me.
Our sex life hadn’t cooled off, even though we’d been together nearly every single night for the last two months since our first date in New York.
It had just gotten hotter and even more intense now that we were relearning everything that made each other crazy.
“I’m not Joyce,” I said firmly as I went to his desk and sat the food down on it. “You have to eat, Tanner. It’s not going to help to go to that meeting without some substance.”
He looked up from his computer in surprise.
And then…he grinned at me, and that pleased expression on his face made something flip over inside my belly.
Sometimes it still made me giddy that no matter how busy Tanner was, he was always happy to see me.
His distractedness immediately stopped, and he was focused on me as he stood. “Hello, gorgeous,” he said in a husky tone as he looked me up and down appreciatively. “I didn’t plan on seeing you this afternoon, but I’m damn glad that you’re here. How were the roads from Crystal Fork?”
We’d gotten snow a few days ago, but there hadn’t been a single snowflake since that storm.
I was wearing a red sweater dress and a pair of heels because I’d been in a work meeting.
I took off my coat and put it down with my purse on a nearby chair as I shot him a chastising look. “The roads are perfectly clear. Don’t be sweet to me right now,” I insisted, knowing I couldn’t resist that heart-stopping grin of his. “You’re supposed to be getting lunch with Kaleb and Devon right now. You text me every damn day to make sure I don’t skip lunch. You didn’t eat a single thing at breakfast. You have to be hungry.”
I was aware of that fact since I practically lived at his house now.
He’d grabbed coffee this morning, but he’d refused to eat anything, even though I’d offered to fix him something.
It was the first time Tanner had left without eating breakfast with me because he’d wanted to get to his office early.
That sexy grin didn’t leave his face as he came around the desk, snaked an arm around my waist, and pulled me close tohim. “Are you worried about me?” he asked right before his lips touched mine.
My body reacted instantly to the kiss, and I wound my arms around his neck, even though my mind was still focused on his lack of food.
All Tanner had to do was touch me, and I immediately wanted him as close to me as he could possibly get.
This man was addictive, and I responded to his embrace, whether I wanted to or not.
My intimacy with Tanner had grown to epic proportions, and he knew exactly how to make every thought fly out of my head excepthim.
“It’s not going to work this time,” I murmured as he released my lips. “You need to eat, and yes, I’m worried about you. I know that you’re stressed out about this meeting.”
He pulled back a little, and my heart tripped as I saw the heat blazing in his beautiful blue eyes.
“Do you have any idea how sexy you look today in that red dress?” he asked hoarsely. “It reminds of that torturously sexy dress you wore in New York.”
The two dresses looked nothing alike, but I’d discovered that Tanner could find almost anything sexy about me. Even when I was in dirty jeans and a shirt after being outside.
I could look like hell, and Tanner would still want me.
There was something about that fact that was incredibly sweet.
I never had to be perfect for Tanner, and he never had to be perfect for me to want him.
If he was close to me, I wanted to be closer.
“Your food is getting cold,” I protested as he nipped my earlobe.
“I have a microwave,” he said in a low growl. “Right now, I’d rather have you for lunch. That would relieve my stress a lot better than food.”
My stomach clenched at the possessive note in his words.
