I watched as his long lashes touched his cheek for a second before his eyes focused on the screen in front of him, and I still couldn’t figure out how he ended up in this life. Someone as kindhearted and smart as Shaw shouldn’t be here. Should have never been a street kid.

I pulled away from him, my body feeling too comfortable in an area my mind most definitely was not yet. “Get it set up and I’ll fund it.”

“I knew you would,” was all he said, not even sparing me a glance from the screen.

I turned around, seeing Emma watching us, a question in her eyes and I couldn’t answer it. I couldn’t begin to explain to her things that I hadn’t figured out. So I nodded as I passed her, squeezing between the space she wasn’t occupying in the door frame and walking away from them both.
