Blaze dropped me off after school. He offered to come in, but I didn't see my step-sister after lunch and I really needed to lay my lips on her. My eyes, too, but you catch my drift. I notice that my step-mother is already home. Never having any type of relationship, we barely spare each other a glance, much less a fucking word.
The sight before me freezes me in my tracks. Layla's on the floor with her mother straddling her, choking her out. I drop my book bag and rush to them. Without thinking twice, I tackle Layla's mom and we fall to the floor together. Grabbing the bitch by the hair, I punch her straight in the nose. The crunch is satisfying. Blood spews from her face and her nose is crooked. Yep, definitely broken.
Layla is still lying on the floor with her eyes closed. Crouching down next to her, I shake her shoulders to wake her. Her pulse is steady, but her cheek is red, almost bruised. Purple fingerprints appear around her neck. Anger is bubbling inside of me and I've never hated anyone as much as I hate Layla’s mother.
Layla’s mother is sitting in the same spot, sobbing. I yank her up by the ear and she glares into my eyes, tears and blood glaze her face.
“I promise you…I will fucking kill you if you ever lay another fucking finger on her, you stupid, worthless slut!” I spit in her face, my saliva sliding down her cheek. I push her back down, she falls on her ass, and resumes her crying.
Using the strength I have left, I carry Layla to the couch, gently placing her down. She looks like Sleeping Beauty, but I need her to wake up right now. I call 9-1-1 and we have to wait fifteen minutes for the ambulance to arrive.
Picking up my step-sister’s head, I sit down and lay her head gently in my lap. Running my hands through her hair, I grow angrier as I watch the bruises on her face and neck get darker. Layla's mom disappeared out the front door while I was on the phone with the dispatcher. That's probably a good thing, I don't know if I could control my actions if she's done any real damage. I don't think I would want to.
Layla
We make it to the light and figures are moving inside of it. I look at Kali nervously. “I just walk into it?” I ask. She looks over at me, sympathy written on her face.
“Yes. I'll be with you every step of the way. We’ve survived this once and we will survive it again. Everything you're about to witness, just remember it was me. I did it for you, your freedom, your justice. I would do it all over again. You'll be stronger because of this and when we leave, Layla…” She pauses and I find her gaze. “You. Let. That. Fire. BURN!” she commands. There's no going back from this and it's time to face my demons. Looking forward, I take a deep breath and enter the light. It hits me so fast, my breath hitches.
I'm a little girl lying in my old pink bed, facing the window. My dad drunkenly stumbles into the room and stands over me. He bends over, whispering something to me as he slides his hand down my nightgown. I'm begging him to stop, cryingwith my pleads. He undoes his pants while his other hand slips into my underwear.
I close my eyes, because the scene is too much for me to handle. Kali grabs my chin, forcing me to look at her. “You need to watch, Layla. You'll overcome this, I promise. The younger you deserves that much,” she says sternly. Nodding my head, I turn my gaze back to the scene. A new one appears.
My dad is forcing my hands to touch him. There are tears and snot covering my face as my father groans with a smirk on his face. His cum shoots down my nightgown before he walks out.
I feel sick watching my younger self go through this abuse and I'm sure it's not going to get any better. A new memory appears.
My dad is on top of me, inserting his manhood into my private area. I'm crying and screaming for him to get off of me. My face suddenly changes, a darkness apparent on it.
I take the pencil on my nightstand and stab my dad in the throat. He freezes, coughs up blood, then falls to the floor. My body is moving so fast when I pick up the scissors and stab him. My mom barges in and screams at me. Running up to me and slapping me across the face.
In a quick replay, flashes of me killing people appear.
Julie. Braxton. Mr. Scott. Vanessa. Carson. Me hurting Ryan and Blaze. There's so much blood and pain, then there are flames. I’m flicking the lighter at Carson’s body, then I’m walking away from his burning house with a big smile across my face. The voice in these memories sounds like me, but moreconfident. Someone who doesn't care about the chaos they bring.
My hands are shaking in disbelief.
“No, no, no! I couldn't have...” I'm mumbling.
“Oh sweet Layla, you didn't,” Kali says walking in front of me. I meet her gaze, a tear rolling down my cheek. She wipes the tear with the back of her finger and places it in her mouth.
“I did. I will kill anyone who has ever hurt us. Don’t you understand?” Kali says, matter of factly. There's no doubt in my mind she means it.
“What now?” I ask, feeling hopeless. Kali lifts my chin for me to meet her eyes, eyes just like mine but much darker. Swiping some of the hair behind my ear, she smiles at me.
“Now? You’re gonna ride in the front seat while I kill that bitch we call Mom.” She says it so sweetly, you wouldn't think she was talking about murder.
“No, it's not right...” I sob.
“We can and we will,” she says, smirking. I’m trying to answer her but everything goes black again.
Kali
To be honest, I was a little surprised I was able to take full control of our body when I did. I'm not sure how it happened, but I'm here for it. I never force myself on Layla like this, but after what that whore did to us, this needed to happen. Layla is still pure-hearted, even after showing her the trauma she’d been through. This is going to happen, our mother will die. Even if it causes us to take our last living breath.
The bright lights are blinding when I open our eyes. Realizing we’re in a hospital bed, I sit up so I can get mybearings. Our throat is sore from
Mom choking us. The door opens and a doctor walks in with Ryan walking in behind her. When she realizes I’m awake, her eyes light up, and she rushes to us.
