She smiled back and nodded, and when she looked out of the large window behind me, I turned to see what she was looking at.
“Where’s your father going?” Yulia asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t know.”
I quickly got up from the stool and walked to the exit to call out to him. He was walking toward the hiking trail. “Where are you going?”
He stopped and turned to look in my direction. “Getting more firewood!”
That sounded boring. “Will you be gone for long?”
“Don’t think so.”
“Okay. Be careful!”
He nodded before continuing into the woods. I sighed and looked over to our cabin. Mom and Ronan were alone, and the idea of peeking through the windows to see what they were doing intrigued me.
But it also scared me.
I’d wait for Dad to come back.
I went back inside and sat down on the same stool. Yulia had put a glass of iced tea in front of me, and I looked at her with a raised brow. I hadn’t asked for it, but I wouldn’t turn it down.
“It’s on me. For having to wait on the fried. And because I think you’re a cool person.”
My brows furrowed. “You do?”
“Yeah.”
“What about Ronan?”
She chuckled and shrugged. “He’s a sweet guy.”
“He has a crush on you,” I admitted. Although, I wasn’t so sure about it now. Maybe he only acted as if he had a crush on her to hide the fact that he was fucking Mom. But I couldn’t tell a strange woman all that.
“I figured as much,” she said with a grins. “Too bad I’m too old for him.”
“How old are you?”
“Thirty-two.”
So, then years older.
I pursed my lips. I couldn’t say much more. I was afraid I’d spill all our immoral family secrets.
“And I have a boyfriend. So…I’m not available anyway. But a little bit of flirting is always nice. Keeps me going, you know?”
I shrugged. I guess.
Our conversation faded when a group of people came in to eat, and she got busy again while I kept sitting there, drinking my free drink, and waiting for my single order of fries.
Finally, I got my food, and because I hadn’t seen Dad come back from the woods yet, I ate my fries there. Just as I finished eating, I saw him come back with a bunch of wood in his arms. I said goodbye to Yulia and headed outside to catch up to him.
“Hey, you’re back. And I see you were successful.”
“Yeah, but most of the wood out there is wet. This is all the dry wood I could find.” He stopped a few feet from the cabin and turned to me. “Have you not been back in the cabin yet?”
I shook my head. “I ate my fries at the diner. Why?”
