My knuckles grow as tight as my jaw. I step into her space, staring down into her rotten face. I really don’t know what I ever saw in her. I’m not sure how I ever looked past all her bullshit. The constant nit-picking. The constant arguing. Definitely a dumb jock move on my part. But Ruby has smartened me up. Taught me that I actually want depth and smarts to go along with the chemistry.

“Two things, Cassie. What happened between me and Ruby at my party was the hottest sexual experience of my life. It wasn’t a prank, and no one looked like a fool except for your bitchy friends. Second thing.” I stare her down further. “We are nothing alike. You get off on putting people down, and this ‘dumb jock’ put up with it for way too fucking long. Now, like I’ve already said, I want you to stay away from me and my girl. And make sure you keep your little dogs over there on leashes too. You three stay in your corner and we won’t have a problem, but if you make any waves, I’ll be making sure you truly feel everything you did to Ruby.”

I turn back to my car. That was my very last warning. And all I can say is she better retreat to her corner fast because I don’t have a scrap of tolerance left for the girl. It’s still to be determined whether I even let her come to the prom. I have an entire football team who can make sure she doesn’t get to enter the venue. On the other hand, I kind of want to see her face when my Ruby is announced the prom queen. What an epic moment that will be.

CHAPTER 11

Ruby

The tutor gets schooled.

My stomach immediately goes haywire at the sound of the doorbell. He’s early. And my room is an absolute mess. There are a gazillion outfits on my floor and my hair is still wet. I quickly gather them up and shove them all inside my closet, then I pull the comforter over my bed before rushing from my room to go answer the front door. I take a deep breath before I open it.

“Damn, babe. Seriously?” His eyes slowly slide down my frame. I look down at the ground, positive my cheeks are ten shades redder from his attention. “How do you expect me to concentrate when you’re dressed like that?”

I’m not sure why he likes my outfit so much. I finally decided that I didn’t want to look like I was trying to impress him, so I opted for flannel pajama pants and a tank top.

“Sorry.” He swallows; his voice quieter. “Are your parents home?” He looks past me into my house, undoubtedly hearing their voices coming up from the basement.

“Yeah. They’re downstairs working. But they’re okay with you being here to study. Come on in. We’ll go to my room so we don’t have to listen to their music.” My parents have a true affinity for the Bee Gees and love to blast it while they’re busy filling orders.

I lead him upstairs, feeling the heat of his stare on my back with every step I take. He’s so close I can smell his sexy cologne.

“Are you hungry or thirsty?” With how fast he got here, I doubt he stopped for a snack after school.

“Not for food.” His hands brace my hips, his mouth right at my ear. “You smell so good, babe. All clean and fresh.” His lips brush over my skin and my entire body is flooded with that achy feeling again. “And you taste good too.”

The hair between my legs grows wet from the intensity he’s showering me with. I don’t understand why his interest in me didn’t wear off. Presley informed me at lunch that he told Kyler he has a crush on me, which I can’t even comprehend. I was also told that he warned everyone to leave me alone, claiming that if they teased me one more time about anything, they’d be served up a dose of their own humiliation. Which explains why no one mentioned anything about Friday night.

I turn, taking a step away, shoving my glasses up the bridge of my nose as I stare up at him. “We should get started on your homework. I’m sure you have other things to do.”

He shakes his head, stepping closer again. “The only thing I want to do is spend time with you, so I’m here until you kick me out.”

There’s another flutter of those buzzing little nerves in my stomach. The attention is so foreign, I don’t even know how to respond.

“We should really get started.” I grab my calculus book and some paper, then take a seat on my bed, sitting cross-legged so he can have room too.

“These are awfully cute.” He bends over, reaching for something on my floor. When I see my polka dot panties, mybigpanties, in his hand, I’m mortified. Of all the things not to shove in my closet, it had to be those. He brings them up to his face, giving them a closer inspection and my nerves freak out. When he takes them to his nose, inhaling deep on a groan, the panties that I now have on are a mess.

“God, you smell good. Bet you taste so sweet.”

“I…um… We should…um…get…started.” He takes one more inhale then tucks them into his pocket.

Again, I don’t understand what’s happening. The boy I’ve had a crush on for years is in my bedroom, stealing my underwear and looking at me like he wants to have sex with me.

“Did you bring your book?”

My voice comes out in a rush. I’m a flustered mess, and his smirk only rattles me further. Thankfully, he eases off, taking a seat and pulling out his book. I immediately jump into our homework problems, walking him through the first few, step by step. Math I can totally comprehend, and based on the fact that he’s getting the problems right, I think I’m a good teacher. But boys and flirting, and knowing what they want? I’m completely unschooled and have no clue what to do.

“Is this right?” He asks.

He turns his paper toward me, showing me his answer to the final problem. He did it perfectly. “You’re a quick learner.” I smile, looking up, my stomach fluttering at the intensity in his eyes. His pupils are so dark.

“I just have a really good teacher.” He takes the paper from my hand and shoves everything to the side. “Since I got all of them right, do I get my reward now?”

I swallow hard. My entire body is practically shaking. Excitement, nerves, confusion. I don’t know what’s causing the tremors, but it’s probably all of the above. “What do you want, Chase? A sticker?”

He chuckles, shaking his head and taking away my personal space. I try to scoot back, finding myself up against my headboard. “I want a kiss, pretty girl.”
