“What are you doing out here, my love? You missed dinner.”
Fuck him. Fuck him and his stupid gut and his stupid estate. There’s utterly nothing to do out here!
I cracked the neck of the young familiar I was playing horseshoes with. He just didn’t realize he would be bent and molded into the shoe.
“If you keep that up, we’ll run low on servants, dear,” he chuckled like the idiot he was.
I snapped my head over my shoulder and twisted my face into pure rage. “Then get some more fucking humans, husband. The solution is as simple as a farm that can be made on the miles of fucking endless nothingness you have at your disposal.”
He scowled at my temper before adjusting himself.
I had it today with the Letos of the North doing nothing of importance while prancing about, pretending like they are going to meetings that bring forth absolutely no kind of results. What future does Letos hold when all we do is play pretend in a world where human sheep were easily herded.
Where was the challenge?
Where was the lust for world domination?
Was I the only sane fucking Letos left?
I should have stayed in the south. At least, there, Mother and I were capitalizing on all our networks and gaining followers behind our ideals that Letos were the only elite the world needed. The other clans had to fall.
Thoughts of my mother tipped me over the breaking point, and I threw the corpse of the young familiar right at the pathetic man I married.
He ducked, growled, and lunged at me. I scratched his face with my nails, but he took my hand and wrapped his hands around my throat. “As much as your temper makes my cock hard, wife, you will know your place here. In House Cromwell, I rule and you submit. This is your last warning. I have no need for heirs and wet holes are easy to come by.”
I hated to admit that his power move turned me on for the first time since meeting him. I scowled at the fact and exposed my fangs in defiance. I didn’t need any emotional connection with a dead man walking.
He forced me to my knees, and I knew what I had to do to pacify his anger. It didn’t take him long to finish in my mouth. It didn’t help that I was somewhat enthusiastic about it this time around either.
He petted me harshly on the face before commanding me to tuck him back into his pants.
“If you are so wretchedly bored on the estate, I’ll let you accompany me to the next meeting scheduled in a few days. How do you feel about that? I can be a good and pleasing husband, after all.”
This was my way in.
“You know I miss you. It’s why my moods have been all over the place. I simply can’t stay here waiting for your return.”
A lecherous smile grows across his face, and I want to claw the flesh of his lips off. He was never meant to rule this home.
“Of course, dear. I can be accommodating.” He turned me and tapped my ass. “Now run along, I need to meet with my brother about something important.”
Tamping down the need for bloodshed, I walk away, then stop, look over my shoulder, and blow a kiss.
He pretends to grab it and slap it over his heart. I can’t believe I got wrangled into marrying this buffoon.
Crossing the large grassy area, the moonlight’s glow illuminates my way back toward the mansion. Staring at it from a distance, the distinct ornate architecture can be seen along the edges of the roof giving it an old world feel.
Pfft. Everything in this world would be dead by the time I was done with it. Hell, half of it already was with the virus. It was time for a new queen to step into place and force us into a better world.
Devon was on the right path. He just wasn’t thinking big enough.
I chuckled to myself, mentally making plans on visiting him.
“What has you in such a light mood today?”
“Jordan,” I purr. “Just the Cromwell I wanted to see.”
His grin took over his face. Hard to believe he was brothers with William. They looked nothing alike. Where William lacked, Jordan had in spades. His good looks and power-hungry aspirations would bring any Letos woman to her knees if she was smart enough.
