The trip over the mountains was a waste of time. Mathias had to be playing me, sending me on a wild goose chase. Damon was dead. I’d killed him. I’m better than this.

Stopping by the Velvet Fang, I made my way through the orgies and moans until I reached the designated room.

Alexander was there, pacing. The moment he heard my steps, he turned around and snarled.

“Where the hell were you?”

“Hello to you too, ya Corrus cunt. You should be honored to have my presence here.” I laughed. “I could have just left you to rot, waiting for an eternity.”

Alexander slammed his fists down on the back of the ornate couch. It dulled the effect he was trying to go for. Crossing my arms, I lifted an eyebrow and waited for him to say what he needed to say.

His eyes skirt to the left of the doorway. I disappeared into the shadows, shut the door and reappeared back in front of him in the same pose I left.

“Disaris takes the fall. I’m going to convince Cassie that an alliance between Letos and Corrus is necessary. We’re the two biggest players left. Shaye is almost decimated, just a speck left. That leaves Disaris. With two clans united, they’ll be easily eliminated.”

I scoffed. “You think it will be that easy to beat those Disaris bitches? They’ll fly to Corrus before you guys even know what hit you.”

I was bluffing, of course. Disaris were flies. There was no threat from them when Letos could easily wipe them out if they wanted to. I beat like threebillionof them by myself. The only thing stopping us was Mathias. They have me, so the tides of any war are already in our favor.

“Let Mathias know that Cassie will meet with him to go over terms of a possible treaty.”

I clasped my hands behind my head and stared at the idiot.

The game a man in this world had to play was to hold all the cards. And Alexander had continued to play his bad hand thinking it was a good one.

I shook my head and laughed.

“What the fuck are you laughing at, you Letos prick?”

“The fact that I’ll probably free you before too long is amusing to me.”

I disappeared into the shadows right as he threw something in my direction. My laugh echoed behind me all the way out of the Velvet Fang.

There was another gift left for me two days after Ian left.

I washed up and walked around the land, thinking of how I would take out Logan before he figured out his beloved little brother died in my marital bed.
