“Good. Where’s Asher?”
The soldier cast a glance my way before answering. “He’s in the back finishing up. He’ll be here in the next five minutes.”
Who the fuck is he to look at me with suspicion. Did he know who I was?
Like clockwork, another tall Letos vampire came swaggering to the front of the crowd. I didn’t miss the way he would touch each human at random times. His dark red hair, amber eyes, and tanned complexion were at odds with one another, but fit together at the same time.
One thing was for certain, these weren’t thralls. I’ve been around my brother enough to know the difference. He was messing with their memory—erasing them. Each human cattle he touched gave him a soft smile of admiration.
“They’re ready for you, Logan. Everyone is eager to live in their new estates for a better life.”
So, this was what William was doing. Collecting wayward humans. I still didn’t understand why we didn't have a human farm. Why didn’t he collect for his own estate? This made no fucking sense when they were all right here, ripe for the picking.
“Good. Send them through the southern tunnels. Maya is your point of contact.”
What the fuck?
“What does my mother have to do with all this?”
Logan turns to me with a lecherous grin. “Guess they didn’t inform you,Princess. Your brother Devon was the reason why our initial southern route got compromised. Your mother couldn’t rein in the idiot, and we lost all of our thralls. He thought he was liberating the people. The other idiot, Elijah, left with him, following his cause. We had to improvise quickly.”
This fucker was playing me. “What do you mean improvise? Everything looks fucking fine to me, right here.”
My brother Devon was just one vampire. How much power could he have really held in his hands for Clan Letos to still bethispissed at him? Logan’s pupils expanded and contracted at the mention of my brother.
“You know nothing, little girl. I’m glad your pathetic brother got what came to him.”
My heart stopped. “What are you talking about?”
Logan let out a booming laugh while he waved his hands and signaled to the other men. They all quickly did whatever it was they were supposed to do. I watched as they slowly whispered to each person standing in formation, giving them a command. Each human happily complied and began a slow march forward to the front of the tunnel. It was mind boggling that droves of human chattel would move the way they did without being thralls.
I continued to scowl, trying to understand what the hell Logan is inferring.
“Your brother is dead and so is his lover. His entire camp was taken out by a bunch of humans. Karma is a bitch, isn’t it?”
After the shock wore off, I saw red.
I leapt at him and scratched his face. He punched me in the jaw, knocking me to the ground, but I quickly got back on my heel and kicked at his knee. The dust around us kicked up, clogging my nostrils as we continued our fight.
He hissed and threw a side kick right at my temple, knocking me on my back. The ground was hard with the loose gravel and sharp wooden shards. I groaned as he walked over me with his legs on either side of my shoulders.
He rolled his neck and looked at me hungrily. Fuck this prick right now. He just fucking told me my brother is dead and he’s looking at me like he wants to shove his cock in me?
“You’re lucky Maya offered your womb in trade for your brother’s misdeeds. It’s the only reason why you’re still alive. Her precious little asset—my little brother’s whore.”
I am not the one. Not today, fucker.
I clenched my jaw, grabbed his ankles with my hands and lifted my knees up to hit the back of his legs hard. He fell forward onto his own knees and I slid beneath him until I could jump onto his back while his knees were still on the ground, with my arm wrapped around his neck and my blade pressed an inch into his ear. I watched as his blood seeped down his neck for a few moments before I licked it, savoring the taste of another Cromwell.
Having such a powerful man beneath me did things to my libido.
“Logan, you underestimate me,” I panted. “My mother cares nothing about my existence and as for this womb…” I twisted the knife in his ear until his head fell forward in pain. “I do whatever the bloody hell I want with it and there’s no one that can stop me, least of all you.”
He growled and tried to throw me off his back, but I wrapped my legs around his torso, locking my ankles together.
I rubbed my face against his hair like a feral cat, cooing at his position under me. I do love having strong men between my legs. I squeezed until I heard one of his ribs crack making me smile against his neck.
The men around us watched from afar, confident in their leader. Little did they know, they’d all be bowing to me soon. Kings pursued what they wanted, but they’d never met a woman like me.
