“Right, sorry. Your brother-in-law came back in again after that first time,” she says with a tight smile and something flashes in her eyes.
For fuck’s sake, what didhe do?
“Yep, I’ve just got back from my honeymoon and came for the second book in a duet he bought me,” I say.
She shows me the book I need before taking it to the counter and ringing up the purchase.
“I know this is really unprofessional, but can I ask what the deal is with your brother-in -law?” she asks, and I bite back a laugh.
Oh sweetheart, you really don’t want to know.
“He’s single, if that’s what you’re asking,” say with a grin and she smiles shyly as she shakes her head.
“No… that wasn’t what I meant, but—you know what? Never mind, just forget I said anything.”
My brows furrow at her obvious discomfort.
“Is everything okay?”
“Of course,” she says and gives me a forced smile. “Thank you so much for coming back.”
I can’t blame the girl for not wanting to talk to me, I just hope she hassomeoneshe can confide in.
I make a mental note to call Enzo later to tell him to sort his fucking shit out, this has gone on long enough and clearly, something is going on with her.
I grab the bag she hands out to me and thank her before making my way out of the store with my shadow following me. Me and Tomasso stroll through the streets of New York back towards the apartment, he doesn’t speak much, which I’m grateful for because my mind is scattered thinking about the mark on Robyn’s arm I spotted as she handed me the bag.
I just fucking know that Enzo would never hurt her, so who the fuck did? I would have asked her about it, but I know she wouldn’t tell me, she doesn’t know me, so why should she?
We’re just walking past a group of people, and I go to grab my phone from my pocket to call Enzo when I notice Tomasso’s no longer beside me. I turn around to see if I can spot where he’s disappeared to, but it’s like he’s vanished into thin air. I spin back around, confused as fuck about where he could have gone and I choke on my breath at the sight in front of me,
Stood next to a parked car on the side of the pavement is a man I never thought I would see again. His face is a welcome familiarity and I stand slack jawed staring at him. I blink a few times, worried that my mind has conjured him up, but my view stays the same. The man who meant everything to me, the man who I never thought I would see again is standing right in front of me.
He’s really fucking here.
I take off in a run towards him and fling myself at him. I wrap my arms around him, and he does the same, pulling me into tight hug and tears stream down my face. People around us give us funny looks but I don’t give a fuck, they can think what they want. He’s fucking here, my arms are wrapped around him.
He’s here.
He’s fucking here.
I can’t believe he’s really fucking here.
“What… what the—”
“Shhh, not herepiccolina,”he says and tilts his head towards the car were stood next to.
He lets me go and opens the door for me, I slide inside, and he rounds the car and gets in the driver’s side.
“I missed you so fucking much,” I say with a watery smile as I stare at him, taking in every inch of his face.

Luca
Istep out of the meeting being held for one of our legal business dealings to answer my father’s phone call, knowing he wouldn’t be calling me during a meeting if it wasn’t important.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
