Page 34 of Vow to Me

“Sleep, little queen,” I whisper as I continue staring down at her in awe. She’s fucking amazing and I’m one lucky bastard that she’s mine. I’ll never take this woman for granted.

I rub my finger against her wedding ring, and it makes me feel like fucking shit as I realize she doesn’t even have an engagement ring. I know she said she grew up knowing what she would have to do for her family, but she still deserves everything this fucking life has to offer and the least I could have done was at least meet her before the wedding and give her a goddamn engagement ring.

She had to move to a different state, leaving the only life she’s ever known behind. She had to move to a place where she didn’t know a single soul to live with a man who she didn’t know. Thinking about it makes me realize just how fucking strong my wife is, she never once cowered or appeared worried. She took my life by storm; she came into my life and flipped it upside down in the best possible ways.

She’s the light I didn’t know I needed to brighten up my day, she guides me through the darkness. She’s the fucking sun, and I’m just one of many planets who can’t help but gravitate towards her.

I need to show her that I’m in this, that she’s not just a temporary fixture in my life. Pretty words mean nothing without the actionsto back it up. She deserves the world and I’ll use all the fucking power I have over this city to give her it if that’s what she wants.

A smile tugs at my lips as I think about tomorrow, I have a stop to make on my way to work, both Izzy and this city need to know that she’s mine for good, that includes putting a rock on her finger.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Izzy

For the second time since I’ve lived in this apartment, I wake up feeling eyes on me, except this time I can sense it’s not my husband.

I gently reach under the pillow for my gun while I pretend to still be sleeping. Luca doesn’t like the fact that I sleep with a gun under my pillow, he says that I don’t need a gun to protect myself when I have him, yet I still don’t feel safe without it. Call it old habits, I guess.

I slowly turn off the safety before quickly sitting it and pointing it at the asshole sat at the end of the bed.

“What the fuck are you doing in here Enzo?”

He looks at me with wide eyes, clearly, he didn’t expect me to be armed, never mind point the gun at him. I knew it was him as soon as I sensed him, but the little fucker needs to be taught a lesson about watching women sleep.

He lifts his finger in ajust a momentgesture and pulls out his phone and brings it to his ear.

“Uh bro, your wife currently as a gun aimed at me, please call her off,” he says into the receiver before putting the call on speaker and placing it down on the bed.

“What do you mean Izzy has a gun aimed at you?” he speaks slowly as if he doesn’t quite believe he heard what Enzo just said.

“Well, I was watching her sleep and then suddenly—” he’s cut off by Luca bellowing into the phone.

“What thefuckdo you mean you were watching her sleep? Izzy, fucking shoot him. I give you my blessing,” he says seriously and making me laugh.

“Again, what the fuck are you doing here Enzo?” I ask with a sigh, it’s too fucking early in the morning for their shit.

“You like books, you said that two nights ago at dinner, so I want to take you book shopping,” he says with an eager nod and suddenly everything clicks into place. When I gave him the information about the girl he saw in the club, I found that she owns a bookstore a few blocks away, he’s using me as a fucking stalking tactic.

“Of course! I can’t wait to meet Robyn,” I say with a grin, “now get the fuck off my bed and make me a coffee while I get ready.”

“He’s on our bed? Enzo what the fuck is your problem? Get off my fucking bed and away from my wife, I swear I’ll fucking castrate you,” I hear Luca growl as Enzo grabs the phone and makes his way out of the room.

Huh, I forgot about him being on the phone.

I take a quick shower and get dressed before meeting Enzo in the kitchen where he’s waiting with a fresh cup of coffee waiting for me in a to-go cup.

“I asked Luca how you liked your coffee, now let's go.”

“Why are we going there Enzo?”

He bites his lip in a contemplative gesture as though he’s trying to find the right words.

“I’ve been watching over her, keeping her safe. I don’t want to get her involved in my life, but I can’t stay away either. The only thing I could think of to be close to her just once was if I’m a customer in her store, but I know fucking nothing about books. Which is why you’re dragging your reluctant brother-in-law with you,” he nods, and he reminds me of a little lost puppy.

He’s clearly conflicted about this girl, and if he’s determined to keep her safe? Well at least that’s one good thing about this while fucked up situation.

We leave the apartment and Enzo leads me to a sedan parked near the entrance to our building. I expected some flash sports car considering his age, not a fucking sedan. Then again, this ties in better with hiswatching girls from the shadow’saesthetic.
