CHAPTER 34

Dee

We missed the rest of the party, fucking until Drake ran out of condoms and sucked every orgasm out of me. He wanted to take me to his place, but I needed to go home. To put some Tooth Fairy money under Tyson’s pillow and be there for her when she woke up. Had Tyson not lost her tooth, I’d likely be doing the walk of shame in the morning. And my sassy little girl would have called me on it.

We drove there in silence, letting Frank Sinatra fill the air between us. My mind was in a fog and I was still throbbing from all the incredible sex. I tried to make sense of this crazy night, but couldn’t. I’d let my sinfully sexy boss fuck my brains out. Now what?

Despite the Sunset traffic, we got to my place in less than forty-five minutes. With both my car and my sister’s in the driveway, Drake parked his Maserati on the street. The lights in the house were off which meant everyone was asleep.

“Let me walk you to the door,” insisted Drake as I undid my seatbelt. His first words since we left his parents’ house.

“Okay.” As soon as I uttered the word, I wished I hadn’t.

Rounding the car, he escorted me to the entrance of my house, his hand planted on the small of my back. Why did this little gesture make me feel so special? So adored. So cherished.

“So, I guess it’s time to say goodnight to the Tooth Fairy,” he said softly as I retrieved my keys from my bag and unlocked the front door.

“Shit.” I fished again through my bag.

“What’s the matter?”

I pulled out a crumpled dollar bill. “This is all the cash I have.”

Drake rolled his eyes. “A buck that looks like it’s been through the ringer for your kid’s first tooth?”

Shame crept through me. My voice grew small. “Maybe you can take me to an ATM?”

He chuckled. “I. Don’t. Think. So.” Then he reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a bill. “Here. This is better.”

My eyes grew wide as he handed it to me. Holy shit! It was crisp, brand-new hundred-dollar bill. “Drake, I can’t take this.”

He laughed again. “No backsies.”

He sounded resolute.

“I’ll pay you back when I get my pay check.”

A smile stayed on his face. “You can pay me back another way…”

A sudden pang of anger ripped through me. A trigger. If he thought I was going to fuck him, he was dead wrong. No way was I going to accept the money and be at his beck and call. That was my mother. That wasn’t me.

My turn to say: “I. Don’t Think So.”

To rub salt into an open wound, he laughed again. “Oh, my sexy Tooth Fairy. You’ve got such a dirty mind. As much as I’d like to fuck you till the cows come home, that’s not what I had in mind.”

Blushing, I shot him a puzzled look.

His face softened. “I’d like to be with you when you put the dinero under Mighty’s pillow.” He paused. “Can I come in?”

The genuine sweetness in his voice melted my heart and dispelled the rage. With a smile, I told him he could and then pushed the door open. As he followed me in, I told him we should take off our shoes so we wouldn’t wake up Tyson. Or my sister.

“Do you have a piece of paper and some crayons or colored pencils?” he asked as he slipped off his left shoe.

“Of course.”

“Good. We need to leave a note from the Tooth Fairy.”

“Um…right.” Why didn’t I think of that? When I was giving art lessons, kids would always show me the notes they got from the Tooth Fairy. Maybe because I never got one?
