“Take care of my niece. I’m headed to check on my woman.” I grin and bound up the stairs.

“Where are you with that bandaid?” I hear Rome yell as I come out of the office.

“Keep your drawers on, kid. I’m coming,” Rodeo yells back.

“Well, come faster, old man. She’s practically bleeding out.”

I laugh at that one as Rodeo rolls his eyes and takes off after him. I shake my head at how alike he is to his father, but continue heading up to my woman.

I hate Jade isn't feeling great, but I’m happier than hell knowing she's in my bed, and it's me helping her heal.

Chapter Eight

Jade

I sigh once more before reluctantly standing and climbing out of the tub. I’m reaching across and grabbing my towel from the vanity when I feel a gush and then wetness running down my leg. What the fuck? I look down and gasp at what I see. It takes everything in me not to scream, but I know I need to be calm. I have no clue what's happening, but screaming isn't going to help me. Then the thought hits me: Gray’s a doctor.

“Gray!” I yell in a panic. It only takes him two seconds before he bursts through the doors, eyes wide, and looks around the room for danger.

“Something's wrong,” I say, barely above a whisper. I feel a cramp go through my stomach and wince. When I look into Gray's eyes, he takes me in from head to toe, but the minute he notices the blood, he’s alert.

“Fuck. What happened? Did you cut yourself? Let me see,” he commands, rushing to me and instantly dropping to his knees. He runs his hands along my legs and finally pulls back.

“Baby, is it your period?” he asks. His tone is quite a ‘duh’ tone, but it's close.

“I got off my period a week and a half ago. I never have them this close together, and I don't cramp either. I’m cramping now,” I finish in a whisper.

“Fuck. Okay, get dressed. I’m going to call one of my friends. She’s the best gynecologist in the state. I’m going to see if she can meet us at the hospital,” Gray explains, leading me out of the bathroom and helping me into a pair of gray sweatpants.

I let him take care of me and lead me out of the clubhouse. I feel like I’m in a daze; nothing’s clicking in my brain. I briefly recognize voices around me. Gray must be talking to his brothers, but all I can think about is the bleeding. Could it be just my period? Or something worse, like cancer? I think back on all the symptoms I’ve had lately. Shit, I should have gone and gotten checked out. I’m not usually a hypochondriac, but the cramping in my stomach seems to be getting worse, and I can still feel the wetness between my thighs. I get so lost in my thoughts that I don't realize we even got into the car, much less to the hospital.

“Clover, baby, I need you to look at me. Focus.” I hear Gray's voice, and I’m brought out of my haze. I look into his eyes and see the worry there as well.

“It's going to be okay, Jade. I promise. I won't let anything happen to you,” he reassures me in a voice so strong and sure that I actually believe him. I nod and watch as he gets out of the car and rushes around the hood, holding open my door and helping me into the Hospital’s emergency room. He throws his keys at a young male nurse on the way in.

“Jenson, mind parking my car for me in the lot? I need to get my woman checked out,” Gray says without waiting for an answer. Jenson replies anyway.

“Yeah, no problem Doc Adams! Take care of your woman!”

We walk past the front desk as the old white-haired nurse yells our way.

“You can't just march in there, Gray Adams! I need to register your lady friend.”

“She’s with me,” Gray says, still dragging me behind him, not bothering to turn around.

“I don't care if the Queen of England is escorting her. She needs to register. You are not making me lose my job over some tail,” she says, pushing up her glasses on her scrunched-up nose and placing her hands on her hips. I want to laugh. She is so stinking cute, but I’m freaking out a bit too much at the moment.

“Dorothy, I am not standing here arguing with you while my woman is bleeding. I will go in there whether you like it or not. We can get her registered in the back. You won't lose your job. This hospital couldn't function without you,” Gray says, bursting through the doors to the back.

“I called Doctor Lake. She should already be here and set up for us. Which room?” Gray clips out at the nurses' station.

“Straight back. She’s waiting for her,” another nurse tells him. She looks down at our joined hands and sneers back up at me. I smirk and flip her off before proceeding to the room ahead of us. Thankfully, Gray doesn’t notice my little back-and-forth with his co-worker. His face is set in stone. He’s worried and determined, making me fall a bit more for him.

“Dr. Adams,” the beautiful female doctor in front of me addresses professionally before turning to me and smiling softly. “You must be Jade. My name is Doctor Amy Lake. It's nice tomeet you. Would you mind undressing from the waist down and sitting on the table? You can use the sheet on the bed to cover up,” she explains, and I nod, relaxing at her words. Something about her warm tone and kind eyes has some of the tension leaving my body.

Dr. Lake walks out while I get undressed. Gray helps me onto the bed when I’m ready and covers my lower half. He kisses my forehead before leaning down and looking me right in the eyes.

“We will figure this out, baby. I’ll be right here the whole time,” he assures me before kissing my lips softly and turning toward the door to get the Doctor.
