We didn’t even get the chance to tell anyone that we were demons before they decided casual was the way to go.

Our demons wanted nothing to do with casual.

We wanted a mate—fated if possible.

And children.

A legion of our own, even though I hated that term for a group of demons. Another biblical term that made our family and community seem like an evil community of spirits.

We just wanted to be left the fuck alone to live our lives like everyone else.

At The Pit, we discussed different jobs coming up and how the business was going.

We did a lot of our work in our workshop, but we also had tools and a portable forge and anvil in the truck for jobs that needed to be done on site.

I scanned the place, noticing the couples there. Shifter couples. Human couples. They could all find their mates easily enough. So why in the hell couldn’t we?

“Anything else for you boys?” The waitress walked up and took our empty plates. “We’ve got a smoked caramel apple pie.”

“Can we get two pieces to go?” I asked, but the waitress’ phone had gotten her attention instead of us.

I waited and watched as she smiled at her phone. “Oh. I’m sorry. It’s that new dating app for shifters. Sorry. Two pieces to go. Got it.”

She came back in a hurry, probably worried about her tip, but I had questions.

“What app?” I asked, curious.

“Oh, see?” She jutted her phone in my direction. “It’s an app for dating and mating. Humans. Shifters. Monsters. Everyone is on there. It’s how I met my Jimmy. He’s coming here next week.”

An app for paranormal creatures to find their mates?

Interesting.

Chapter Five

Poe

Gargoyles were a no-go. I let the app run with the algorithm for over a week and nothing. Was that enough time to find a mate? Maybe. Was I jumping the gun and switching species too fast? Probably. Would that stop me?

No.

I’d recently done a deep dive into demons and was oddly curious about the species—that was my other reason for changing my mind.

Besides, a stone dick didn’t really do it for me. Did they shift into human form? Did gargoyles stay stone all the time?

While intriguing, those were questions I only wanted to explore online or on my podcast, not in person.

But demons. Demons swirled in my mind, and not in the movie way.

I didn’t know much about them. I’d done some reading and found tales and myths, but that’s all they were and, from my experience, such things were usually far from the truth.

But I’d never heard of shifters mating with demons.

While sitting outside on my back porch, I changed my preference once again on the app. This time, I was interested in demons. Hell, I was surprised they were even a category, but the app claimed to be a site where every species could find their HEA, so why not demons?

My phone pinged with a message, and I opened it right away. My friend Tracy. She was at the front door with cake and hot chocolate. Two of my favorite things.

I bolted to the front, the thought of double sugar and double chocolate fueling me even before I took a taste. My wolf was even excited, and she didn’t get excited over very many things lately.
