Teagan paused. Tyler could see her thinking over his words. He understood the worry, especially as he now knew she was carrying their child.

Kas had been seatedat his desk for the last few hours, following the small dinner of hares. The sun had set, and only a desk lamp illuminated his room. He’d long neglected his paperwork, worrying about his pack. If he was going to be transported to Africa, a fate worse than death for him personally because of the heat, he wanted to be sure that everything was in order. He didn’t want humans taking over the running of the park and thinking he couldn’t keep good records, just because he was part animal. Maybe it would show those humans how civilized shifters could be.

“Kas?” Jane popped her head around his door, her face full of worry.

“What is it?” He jumped to his feet and made his way over to her quickly. In a few seconds, she was in his arms. “Talk to me?”

“It’s Nuka. He’s made another attack.”

“Where?” Kas questioned, hoping it wouldn’t be as bad as the previous ones.

“On national television, during the Oscars,” Jane explained.

“What’s the Oscars?” Kas questioned. He really preferred to read books than watch television.

Jane smiled, and Kas instantly knew he was showing his ignorance of modern day events.

“It’s an annual celebration of film. It was decided to let it go ahead. The humans wanted to prove they were defiant in the face of the threat the shifter world poses. When a very famous actress was accepting her Oscar for best female lead, Nuka, Ciaran, and your grandfather appeared on the stage beside her.” Jane screwed her eyes together as if trying to get rid of a painful memory. “They tore her apart as everyone else ran from the auditorium.”

Kas brought his hand to his mouth, shocked and distressed over the poor woman’s demise. She’d probably never done anything to harm shifters but had been murdered in her moment of victory.

“Did she have family?” he questioned.

Jane nodded. “Three daughters and a husband. Plus, her parents and two brothers.”

“Damn it, Nuka,” Kas swore and spun around to smack his fist into the wall.

“What do we do?” Jane tried to placate his anger by placing her hand on his shoulder. He moved away from her, though, and shouted up into the air.

“Jessica, take me to Nuka.”

“Kas, no.” Jane tried to reach him, to stop him, but she was too late.

He dematerialized from his office to reappear at Nuka’s home.A wild party was in full swing. He stomped through the corridors, making sure to avoid all the fornicating couples. When he reached Nuka’s main room, he found his brother receiving oral sex from one of the women he kept for that purpose.

“Brother dearest, why don’t you pull up a whore and get your dick sucked for the first time in your life,” Nuka laughed.

Kas let a loud growl rumble from the back of his throat. “I’ll pass, thank you. I don’t want to catch any of the diseases being shared around here.”

“Your loss,” Nuka grunted and shut his eyes as he continued receiving pleasure from the woman kneeling in front of him. “What do you want, anyway?”

“Don’t you think the Oscars was a step too far?” Kas questioned.

“Not at all. After declaring we have to go and live in Africa, the humans are stupid if they think we’ll ignore the fact they’re trying to have a normal life. Like fuck I’m going there. I’ll boil in the heat.”

“You could have just created a disturbance. Killing the actress was wrong. She has a family.”

“You think I really care about that, brother?” Nuka’s voice was strained as he got closer to his orgasm.

The shifter council will come for you—I can’t stop that now, but please leave the humans alone so I can convince them we’re not dangerous,” Kas pleaded.

Nuka threw his head back and laughed. He pushed the woman away from his groin, and placing his cock back into his pants, he stood up.
