I put on my sunglasses, went outside, and for the next five minutes, told Carter about my molestation. A bucket of tears poured out of him. They stroked down his cheeks, his face contorted into misery, and when I finished, he sobbed into my shoulder. His body shuddered in my arms. Loud sobs burned my soul, wishing I had never said anything. In my lap, my little brother repeatedly whisperedI’m sorryas I rubbed his back. A great brother, friend, and husband, he didn’t know about the horrors of the world. I tried to keep them away from him, and here I was introducing him to the murkiness of my past.

We stayed outside, letting the built-up anguish burn off in the sun, and then I brought up lighter topics, such as our wedding. Sitting next to each other, talking about my upcoming wedding, his baby, we were finally able to surrender to the past, and take part in the thrill of things to come. Wren, Lindsey, and Cole made a salad and sandwiches and brought them to the patio. For the rest of our stay, my family grew closer, and I had kicked my addiction.

Chapter 36 - The Lightness in My Dark

WREN

It was supposed to be a simple contract of “I do’s” with a three-year lockdown, but Finn and I changed the plan. Through getting to know one another, witnessing our darkest moments, a cold contract developed into an emotional bond. The hard times only brought us closer.

Our wedding day had arrived. A forever life. I never imagined marriage, let alone with someone like Finn. What started out as a shaky relationship at some point became solid. Finn offered me comfort and help when my past caught up to me. With nothing in return, he held me up when I couldn’t stand alone. And I became his crutch when he fought his demons.

I watched the flower girl toss petals in the aisle. Since I hadn’t heard from my parents, I asked Cole to walk me down the aisle. With an arm through his, we walked toward my future. Finn always had an air of sexiness, but as I glanced at him by the altar, he took my breath away. His hair fell in a tousled arrangement, a few balancing on his long dark lashes, eyes shining my way. With color back in his face and a leaner body, his tuxedo wore like a second skin. He turned away, and I thought he was laughing. When his gaze met mine, the lights reflected off his glassy eyes. The lightest gray I’ve ever seen.

Cole and I reached the altar. He kissed my cheek and handed me over to Finn. At that moment, I saw the beautiful yellow constellations glimmering in his gray eyes. I didn’t detect any nervousness in Finn. He gave me a full-on dimpled smile. We faced the priest while Finn’s pinky finger hooked onto mine. I tried to pay attention to what the priest said but having Finn next to me made it difficult to concentrate.

The ceremony trickled on and then we were saying our vows. My hand shook in Finn’s as he repeated the traditional vows, all his attention on me while I tried to swallow the lump in my throat. It was my turn. My voice sounded like cracked knuckles when I said the vows. Beads of perspiration formed on my upper lip, armpits, and inner thighs. Finn’s mere presence lit my body on fire. He put the wedding band on my finger, I did the same, and the priest pronounced us married.

Finn gathered me in his arms and kissed me with enough passion to make the statue of the Virgin Mary blush. People stood clapping as we made our way down the aisle and into a limousine waiting by the curb, whisked off to our photo session. By the time we were done, my face ached from all the smiling. I had one plastered to my face since the morning, knowing my happily-ever-after was hours away.

At the reception, the wedding planner clipped microphones to our clothes, so we could address all 500 guests. Who knew that many people? Finn, the enigma, his beautiful being, and the man who loved expensive things, yet the simple made him feel at home. And he was my home.

For the first time, a band member introduced us as Mr. and Mrs. Merrick Trevino. We held hands while entering the outdoor reception, which expanded the length of the hotel side. I took a quick intake at seeing so many here, yet not for me. Maddie had informed me that my parents were a no-show. They had declined the invitation, but a small part of me hoped they would change their mind. At least Chef Dan and his wife, the maids, Jasmine and Mable, and the gardener, Jacob came to celebrate with us.

Standing in the middle of the dance floor, circled by tables, Finn held my hand and said, “Wren and I would like to thank you all for sharing this day with us. It’s been an incredible journey and we’re looking forward to our future.” Everyone clapped and when it calmed, he continued, “We hope you enjoy yourselves. Please be patient with the wait staff. There are a lot of mouths to feed and drinks to fill.” People laughed as he ended it with athank you.

We sat at the bride and groom’s table with our wedding party. Emily, Jessica, Natalie, and Madison, who was my maid of honor, stood up to the wedding, and Finn had Carter as best man, Jared, Peter, and Jonathan, who stepped in at the last minute after pulling Kye. Champagne and drinks sat in front of us. Finn and I couldn’t stop looking at each other and smiling. The day had moved fast. He clutched my hand under the table and then he ticked his head toward the hotel.

After excusing ourselves, Finn rushed me into the hotel where he found a closet, closing us in. He sat on a step stool, and I straddled his lap. His hands hummed along my ankles, calves, whispering intimate words, how beautiful I was… his luck in finding me.

When his hand reached my ass, he let out a wicked growl. “You are a dirty little girl. I would have never thoughtmia piccolawould go commando on our wedding day. Were you in church like this?” I let out a giggle and leaned in to kiss him.

“No. I got rid of them afterwards.”

Finn took my face in his hands. “I love you, Wren.” He began kissing me all over my face and neck, our breaths weak with want as I released anI love you too. His hands drifted all over until he released his erection, and wasting no time, pushed inside me. We both let out a moan.

“Fuck, Wren.” I lifted up and down on him. “You were ready… wet and warm.”

With his hands grasping my hips, I bounced on his lap, a deep penetration I had missed over the past days. Our juices echoed in the small janitor room. His hands went under my dress, kneading my ass. My hips rolled in a circle, and I began bouncing again. I heard something outside, but the thickness of him inside me muted the world.

“Oh my God, Finn…”

My head fell back as the closet door flew open.

Finn yelled, “What the—”

But Carter cut him off. “Shut up!” He unclipped Finn’s microphone. “I’m sure everyone has enjoyed your performance so far, but we don’t need to be part of the ending or an encore.”

I rose over his lap, mortified and frustrated. “Shit! What are we going to do?”

Carter took my microphone and said, “Continue.” And with that, he shut the door behind him, his footsteps leading away.

My mouth hung open and I could feel my face heat. Finn busted out laughing and I smacked his arm.

“It’s not funny. Everyone heard us going at it. Alessandro, the board members, friends, and family, they—”

Finn’s mouth crashed onto mine, bringing me closer. His intense kisses were staggering.

I pushed at his chest. “Did you even hear what I said?”
