“It’s okay. I know what a research analyst does.”

“I asked Wren if she found a job, because I haven’t been able to.”

My arm fell from Wren’s waist. “You’ve been out of a job since Christmas?”

“Yeah. It sucks. No one is hiring in the research department. I enjoyed the work.” Wren gave his arm a soft touch. More of a sweet gesture than sexual. I guess she liked the guy.

“Is research the only thing you do?”

“No, I worked in the underwriting department of a securities firm before I moved over to the company where Wren and I worked.”

After assessing him, he appeared to be a decent guy. Hell, he was enthusiastic about working, which meant plenty in today’s times.

I took out a card from my wallet and said, “Here’s my business card. Why don’t you—”

“Oh my God, you’re Merrick Trevino.”

“Fax your resume over on Monday and I’ll take a look at it. Maybe we can find a place for you in the company.”

Chris’s mouth hung for a moment before responding, “Are you serious?” I nodded. “This is great. Thank you so much, Mr. Trevino.” He let out a howl. “I can’t even believe my luck…” He hugged Wren and let her go with his hands up. “Sorry, it’s… I’m so… thank you so much. I promise, if you give me a chance, I won’t disappoint you.”

I liked his excitement and chuckled. “You’re welcome. Nice to meet you.”

“You too.” He said to Wren, “Good to see you again.”

We returned to the others, and Wren looped her arm inside mine. “That was sweet of you.”

I grinned. “I gotta keep the enemy close.”

She looked up at me. “How is he the enemy?”

“For one, the guy sat in your car half naked.”

“Finn! He was not naked.”

“Two, he’s all touchy feely with you.”

“You are such—”

My mouth swallowed her words. She smiled into the kiss.

She snuggled closer. “You’re all the man I need, Finn.”

“Good answer,piccola.”

I struggled the rest of the day to stay awake. Thank God, Carter drove home. I fell asleep against the backseat door, Wren resting on me. During the night, I vomited, and was glad to find Wren still sleeping when I entered the bedroom.Mo chuisle. This woman broke open an emotional dam, and I had to figure out how to stay afloat without drowning.

Chapter 34 - Party Time

WREN

The sunlight shot through the slit in the curtain, and I heard Finn vomiting. I wondered if he had the flu because he got sick a couple of times during the week. He climbed into bed, smelling of mouthwash. I rested on the headboard, biting my lip, face lined in worry.

“What’s wrong?”

He scratched at the stubble on his face. “Nothing.”

My hand touched his bicep. It was cold and clammy. I sat cross-legged, facing him. “Something’s wrong. You’re sweaty and have thrown up several times this week.”
