“Oh, Darius,” she gasped. “I’m sorry. I had a nightmare.”
I was relieved she didn’t hate me as she scooted over to me and laid her head against my chest. My heart ached for her. I protectively wrapped my arms around her as we sat in her nest. What in the world had she gone through? Was she dreaming about her father? I was going to kill that bastard without her knowing.
I rumbled deep in my chest to soothe her. To calm her racing heart and she leaned into me for strength, wrapping her arms around my waist. Her tears soaked through my white shirt, but I didn’t give a fuck about my shirt getting a little wet.
This little omega was going through something that I didn’t know. My purring was soothing her, at least. She stopped crying, and her breathing returned to normal. Her omega scent was no longer laced with stark fear.
“What were you dreaming about?” I asked slowly.
“I can’t talk about it,” she whimpered. “I think I’m too damaged to be here.”
"No, you're not," I said, confused she would say such a thing. I rubbed her back as she shuddered. "You're not damaged at all, sweetheart."
"What makes you so sure?"
“No one can be more damaged than Jatix,” I said, trying to comfort her.
She curiously pulled away to look at me. I wiped her tears with the pad of my thumb.
“Why? What happened to him?” she asked.
“He was born to a psycho-alpha mother. She didn’t want a child with white hair, so she made his life a living hell,” I explained. “I’ll let Jatix tell you the specifics, but I’ll leave it at that for now.”
Alpha females were notorious for being tough and not so very nurturing. They were the no-nonsense type.
“Poor Jatix,” she said, her brows furrowed in worry.
“Everyone has a dark past somewhere,” I said.
“What’s yours?”
“Well, for one, omegas never liked me,” I admitted. “Back in college, an omega girl pretended to like me to the amusement of her friends. The day she broke my heart was the worst. Ever since then, I stayed far away from omegas.”
“I would never do that to you,” said Keera in earnest, her scent rising. My mouth quirked up in a smile.
“We’ll see. I came up here to call you for dinner.”
“Oh,” she exclaimed, slapping her forehead. “I’m sorry I fell asleep.”
“It’s okay,” I said, hearing her stomach growl.Fuck, she was cute. She was going to be my weak spot, I was sure of it. If anyone ever hurt her, so help me god. And if Ieversaw her father again, he wouldn’t live another day. After what I had seen at the auction today, he wasn’t one of the good guys. He was the type of guy I would hunt down in the streets to kill. “Are you ready to meet the rest of the pack?”
“Yes,” she said eagerly, a small smile on her face.

Darius followed behind me as I walked down the stairs, my hand on the gold handrail. It was cool and smooth under my palm. The house was magnificent with its open structure and tall ceilings.
“She’s here,” I heard Jatix say in a singsong voice. Jatix was dangerous to trust, but I started falling for him. My little omega heart wanted to mate with him, but I had to pull the reins on it.
“Hi,” I said, stopping just outside the kitchen. Silus was sitting at the dining table, and Jatix was gathering forks. I wasn’t sure about Silus. He seemed distant and a little bit cold towards me.
Darius stood next to me protectively, his body close to mine.
“Come in!” said the one named Shawn in a booming voice.
“Am I allowed into the kitchen?” I asked. All the men stopped what they were doing, staring at me open-mouthed.Oh shit, did I say something wrong? I hope I didn’t piss them off so early already.
