“No,” said Mason. Then, with the metal tongs in his hand, he looked over at Vanessa. “It bothers me that Vanessa only trusts you and your pack around her. I don’t fucking get it.”

“She met us first, and we didn’t chase her halfway around the island to rut her,” I pointed out.

Mason's face cracked into a smile. “You have a point there.”

“Hey, we’re not competing against each other,” I said. “We’re a pack now. I’m sure she’ll come around, but for now, be patient.”

Alex came out of the house, holding a towel to his nose, and washed up.

“You roughed me up pretty good,” said Alex, clapping me on the back. “Past differences aside?”

“All forgotten,” I said. But in reality, it would take me some time to fully trust him.

“Your beta packmate and Laurent looked to be getting along nicely,” said Alex as we saw them quietly talking to Vanessa and Liam. “What’s Vanessa’s history? Why doesn’t she want relief from her heat and to be bred? She is the most stubborn omega.”

“She didn’t tell you?” I asked, surprised.

“What is it?”

“She has a son named Gabe. He’s the son of the Royal Pack, technically the prince,” I explained. The Stoneclaw Pack might as well be informed. Vanessa was here, and my pack had merged with theirs. I had finally given in and expanded my pack, complete with an omega. “They took her son and then put her up for auction.”

“What the holy fuck?!” raged Alex, his face turning as red as his hair, tied up in a ponytail. He looked down, his gaze remorseful and sad. “And we were out chasing her like wild beasts. No wonder she didn’t want kids anymore.”

“If she keeps on like this without a knot or some kind of relief, she can die if any complications happen. Never mind the pain she’s in right now,” I said, my eyes locked on her.

Vanessa had tears running down her face as she clutched her stomach. She was still only wearing my shirt, which I couldn’t believe she’d taken. She was attached to me whether she knew it or not. And I was attached to her. It had taken me too long to find her and hunt down where the Stoneclaw Pack lived.

Alex started making his way toward her, and I hastened to follow.

She would get frightened.

Just like I thought, she clutched Liam’s arm when she saw us, and Liam growled protectively, throwing an arm around her body.

“I won’t come any closer, I promise,” said Alex, holding his hands up.

Vanessa sniffled, quietly gazing at us with fearful eyes. I hadn’t seen her so broken down. She was the opposite of the confident, sexy dancer I’d first seen. Her omega heat had taken over and made her smaller. The closer I got to her, the more her scent overpowered the air. I wanted to help her.

To rut her just like every alpha in the room.

“Vanessa, let us help you,” I said. “Please.”

“I can’t have another child,” she said, her eyes darting between us like a caged bird.

“We will help you get Gabe back,” said Alex determinedly.

She gasped. “You told him, Jack?”

“We’re in his pack now. You can trust him,” I said. “Let us help you through your heat, and then we’ll get Gabe back for you.”

She looked tired and weak as she studied the sand below her, clutching Liam’s arm.

“Do you promise?” she asked. I could tell she was trying to hold on, to resist our alpha knots. Her body craved us, and she would have to give in sooner or later.

“I promise you, Vanessa,” announced Alex with fire in his eyes. “We will getmyson, Gabe, back.”

Her face began to relax, and she breathed out a sigh.

“Okay.”
