I woke up briefly earlier, thinking that I was stuck in a nightmare. My body was covered in sweat from my heat. Shivering, I pulled the blanket off, grateful for the cool chill in the room.
“What happened?” I asked, looking around at the men surrounding me.
Luke gave me a one-armed hug.
The smell of his cologne caused a wave of desire to sweep through my entire body. Remembering I was in heat, I wanted to tell them what was happening to me, but my parents were right there.
“Nothing, daughter,” said my dad, Armon. “Just the little sigma brother acting out.”
“He has every right to be upset with you,” Kodan interjected, balling his hands into fists.
“What are you all talking about?” I said, still feeling a bit woozy from my drugs.
“Nothing to worry your little head about,” my father said in a loud voice, standing over Kodan.
Kodan equally stood up on the opposite side of the bed. They rounded my bed, and my heart rate increased from the sound of the heart monitor next to me.
“Whoa, there,” said Luke, trying to get between them.
“The only reason I’m not killing you right now is because of your daughter,” said Kodan.
“If my daughter had a choice, she’d leave you at this very moment,” shouted Armon. “Try it. I will kill every last one of your men.”
“Dad, stop, please,” I tried to say loudly, but my voice came out in barely a whisper. I tried to sit up, but my mother held my shoulder down.
“They’ll sort it out,” my mom whispered, her eyes wide as she watched.
“Your daughter wants to be with me,” said Kodan, his lips pulled back in a snarl. “She’s my wife, after all.”
“Do you want to be with this idiot?” my dad asked me. “If not, I’ll give the orders to execute.”
“Dad, stop,” I pleaded. “Of course I want to be with him.”
“Lyra, he’s not good for you.”
“He’s good to me, dad. Please stop this,” I said, exerting the last of my energy to calm him.
“I think it’s time our visit is up,” said Armon, grabbing his wife’s hand. He was clearly unhappy with my answer.
“But Lyra,” my mom protested, looking back at me. My dad huffed and looked like he regretted being rude to me.
He walked to my side of the bed and kissed my forehead.
“Do you feel okay, sweetheart?” he asked, looking me in the eyes with concern. I knew he cared about me, but being in the same room as Kodan was hard for him.
“It’s just a scratch,” I said, touching the bandages on my neck. “I feel a little tired, but I’m fine.”
“You’re our princess warrior. We’ll be heading out for now, but we will visit you later,” he promised.
“Alright, bye,” I said as they hugged me. They left the hospital room, and I let out a long sigh.
I had no idea what happened between Kodan, Seth, and my dad, but I didn’t want to get involved.
All I could concentrate on now- was how my body was feeling. I couldn’t get cool enough as I squirmed on the bed in pain. My skin was hot and flushed. I was throbbing between my legs, like something was missing.
“What’s wrong, my love?” asked Kodan, watching me as I fidgeted and squirmed on the bed.
“Pain in my belly,” I gasped. “And a strange feeling of emptiness…”
