I closedmy eyes to try sleeping again.

Kodan startled me when he grabbed me like that, but in truth, my panties were sopping wet. His touch sent shock waves through my body, showing me things I’d never felt before. “No need to panic. We're here,” said Kodan.

Realizing the truck had stopped, I disentangled myself from him and stood. I was greeted by a crowd of the half-human, half-wolf people I had seen attacking our city. My heart was in my throat as I backed away in a panic, crashing into Luke. They were barking and drooling at the mouth, their eyes on me.

“What’s happening?” I asked Kodan. They were looking at me like I was their next dish.

“They think you’re our new omega sacrifice,” said Kodan, rubbing his black beard, which was as curly as his hair.

“Am I going to be the new sacrifice? Do you sacrifice omegas? Is that a real thing?” I was panicking out of my mind.

“It’s a real thing."

“Are you going to let that happen to me?” I asked.

Luke stood protectively in front of me, brandishing his small gun.

Kodan jumped off the truck’s bed, waving at the people with both hands, and they began to quiet down. Voss came around the truck to join Kodan.

“She’s mine,” yelled Kodan, and the crowd began to boo at him. As I looked at the crowd, I was scared to get out of the truck. They all had long fur running down their arms and legs. Most of them didn’t have a stitch of clothing on them. Some of the women had pieces of cloth around their waists, but all of them were bare-breasted.

“Come on down,” Voss called to me. He had an excited gleam in his eyes. I bit my lip, looking at them. How were they going to protect me against the massive crowd?

I grabbed Luke’s hand instinctively.

“You can do this, Lyra,” Luke said.

“What if they kill me?”

“I won’t let them,” he said. “A lot worse will happen if you stay here.”

He was right. I had never met these Wild Wolfmen before, and they were unpredictable. Anything could happen to us.

“Do you have my back, Luke?”
