“I’m not ready,” I said. It surprised me to see Ryder’s face fall ever so slightly, and it was awkward saying this while I was knotted to him still. I hated every moment of this. I wanted desperately to have babies and be part of a pack, but I couldn’t trust alphas just like that.
“Damn,” said Ethan, and my face turned hot.
“May I ask why?” asked Ryder.
“After how my ex-boyfriend treated me, I’m not very trusting of alphas,” I said. “I built my career from nothing, and now I don’t want to ruin it for anything.”
“I understand, but…” said Ryder, touching my face.
“But what?”
“I’ll wait until you’re ready. Because if it was meant to be, nothing will stop us from being together.”
Later that night,I lay in bed after showering. While in the shower, I couldn't help but think about my first invitation to be an omega for a pack and how open this pack was to me, unlike my ex, who kept me hidden.
I could hear the guards walking around the house late at midnight and settling into their rooms after long naps. The baby shower seemed to have worn out all of us. The cleanup after the baby shower tired me out, but then having mind-blowing sex with Ryder after that took a toll on me.
His words played in my head over and over.“…nothing will stop us from being together.”
But how did he know if he was ready for an omega? I didn’t know anything abouthim, yet I couldn’t help but get knotted by him. It was unbelievable to me how strong my desires were when I was around him. After my shower, I still felt his semen leak from my pleasantly sore vagina and his phantom knot inside me. I wasn’t a virgin anymore, and I didn’t regret that Ryder was my first.
I didn’t feel any different after being knotted, but it opened a whole new world.
A strange feeling of emptiness settled within me after I told him my decision. I felt the loneliness deep down to my very being, and I wanted to run back to him. I wanted to confess that I wanted to be his omega and have babies with him. But logically,it didn’t make sense to me at all. I closed my eyes, trying to sleep even though my brain was running a mile a minute.
I heard a soft knock at the door, and I pulled the blanket from my hot face.
“Come in,” I said. I saw the door opening and the silhouette of Adrian standing there in the shadows.
“Wanna talk?” he said, coming closer to the bed.
“Not really,” I said glumly, turning away from him. “I’m exhausted.”
"Then allow me to tuck you in."
I felt the bed sink in as he lay down next to me. He silently pulled me in, wrapping an arm around me. Even though my mind screamed at me to kick him out, I felt comfort in his presence. His chest pressed against my back as he spooned me, and the vibrations from him soothed me into a deep sleep.
The following morning,my arms were sore from swimming.
As I swam, I thought about everything that happened last night with a fresh, clearer mind. It was all so hazy after our exhausting day. I hadn’t seen Ryder yet this morning, and Adrian was still snoring in my bed after spooning me. Cooper greeted me on my way to the swimming pool, warily watching me walk away. I knew he was watching me from the extra cameras they installed.
I was mindlessly swimming, unsure of my life decisions, until I was interrupted by Adrian and Lucas.
“Morning, Lacy,” said Lucas. He seemed to be in a chipper mood this morning. “Up early?”
I looked up with water dripping from my face.
“Yep! Morning,” I greeted. He jumped into the pool, only wearing shorts, and I groaned internally. It was hard not to feel horny around all these men. But at the same time, having company here would mean I wasn’t alone with my thoughts for too long.
“I was worried when I didn’t see you next to me,” said Adrian, who swam towards me. His hair was already completely wet and plastered to his face.
“Don’t worry, I’m still here,” I said, lifting my head up for air. I dived deep, swimming for a minute, then paused briefly.
“Yeah, I can see that,” he said, floating beside me. “I would just like to know where you go at all times. You could have woken me up- I want to do my job well, you know.”
“Since when?” I asked sarcastically. Ever since I met him, he was always joking and playing around.
“Since you,” he said, licking his lips as he gazed at me. Tendrils of his long, curly black hair covered his eyes, and he quickly shoved it back. “It may look like I joke a lot, but in reality, my eye was always on you.”
