After his little revelation, I step away to catch my breath. Never has honesty overwhelmed me, my hand resting on my chest as my heart beats wildly.
“Lady Hades, I will leave you to think and gather my brothers. It seems war is coming,” he says with a wolfish smile of promise.
I don’t respond as he opens the door to exit, I flick my wrist and slam it shut. Part of me doesn’t want to be alone, and the other is testing his words.
“I didn’t say you could leave,” I sass with a smirk. “Text your brothers and have them meet us here.”
War returns to my side, he grins back. “I am at your mercy, mistress.”
My phone chirping on the side table rouses me from my sleep. A message from War lights up as blinks against the harsh light of my screen.
Meeting in Hayden’s room. ASAP. Will one of you grab me some clothes?
Why the fuck doesn’t he have clothes?
Annoyance is strong and thick as I grit my teeth. I try to calm myself as the clicks of the other doors sound.
Hopping out of my bed, I sniff a pair of board shorts and, satisfied, change into them. After a once over to make sure my hair is in perfect form, I dab on a little cologne and head out to meet up with my brothers.
“What the fuck is going on?” I ask, eyeing Frank.
He shrugs. “I don’t know, but if Drevi doesn’t hurry, I’m leaving his ass.”
At the mention of his name, Drevi appears from the kitchen with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and clothes for Warin the other.
“You were waiting for me?” he scoffs. “Come on, let’s see what all the fuss is about.”
Drevi leads us out of the loft and into the elevator.
Of course… his ex is in it.
Brittany’s finger is still on the open button as we step inside and her face lights up.
“Well, well, who let you out of your cage?” I ask, letting out a bit of my earlier frustration. She’s the perfect target.
“You were always not the funny one, Pyro,” Brittany huffs in annoyance. She inches closer to Drevi, but he moves farther away in turn. Her scowl deepens and fuck, that fills me with satisfaction.
“Back off of Drevi, or I will have you removed from the hotel,” Frank warns. “As owners, we do not need a reason to kick anyone out,”
“Removed for what? Talking to one of my old boyfriends? You have no grounds to kick me out. Besides, I’m married now. Happily!” she adds hastily like that makes it any more believable.
“So happy you were pushing the button to open the doors onourfloor. You need a code to open our level, by the way. Why aren’t you with your husband instead looking for Drevi?” I question her.
“What, that was your level? I was just checking out the furniture and decor on all of the levels. It’s honestly gorgeous. If you four did it, I’m astonished. Who knew you had such taste?” She’s laying it on thick now.
Frank’s cough sounds more like 'bullshit' then a cough. Drevi tries to suppress his smile, but that bitch caught a glimpse of it and started moving toward him again.
The moment she’s almost touching him, the elevator slides open, and he bolts.
Frank and I follow and never look back, not bothering to hide our laughter this time.
Drevi takes a few breaths as we stop in front of Hayden’s door.
“Dude, I’m fucking proud of you. Normally, you’d been a puddle at that vile woman’s feet. I’m glad you stayed strong, brother,” I tell Drevi as I clap him on the shoulder.
“Thanks. I kept picturing Hayden’s smile and I forgot all about Brittany. I’m not letting her sink her talons into me again,” he promises, and knocks on the wooden door.
It casually swings open on its own. One by one we enter, and this time I take the lead. In the dim firelight, I’m able to make out two figures on the couch.
