“Well, I need to apologize for your dumb ass, and I want to hear from her what she saw. If we’re lucky, it wasn’t much. Get back to your office or head to the loft. We don’t need any more excitement for the night.”

He stands as he mutters, “You’re right. I’ll call it a night. I can’t believe I fucking did that.”

I watch him exit the bar and pull out my phone.

War…

Whatcha need Famine?

Number and floor to Hayden’s room… Death fucked up…

Shit…floor 6, room 66, keep me updated.

Headed to Hayden’s room, Drevi is on his way to the loft. Keep an eye on him.

Pocketing my phone, I make my way to the elevators. As I arrive, the doors are about to close. “Hold the door!”

A female hand grips the side to keep it open so I can enter. I mutter 'thank you' and settle into the elevator.

“You’re welcome, love,” a feminine voice replies. I freeze at the familiar syrupy sweet tone.

Brittanythe bitch.

The twat that ripped out Drevi’s heart and tap danced on it as it was still beating.

How the fuck did she get past security?

We banned her from the hotel, she shouldn’t be on this elevator at all. Thank fuck Drevi didn’t come this way.

“What are you doing here?”

“Oh, my husband insisted we stay here on our vacation. I tried to talk him out of it, but here we are.”

The elevator stops on the fourth floor and she exits, blowing me a kiss as the doors close again. Drevi doesn’t need this after the day he’s had. I quickly shoot a text to War and Pyro, telling them about Brittany and her husband. Hoping to the gods that Drevi did go to the loft. I hit send just as the doors open to the sixth floor.

There’s a trail of flower petals along the hall. The trail leads me to Hayden, sitting outside her door with a pout on her lips.

It takes a lot to freak me out, but the decay of the flowers and aging of the waitress did just that.

I made a beeline to my room after Drevi refused to tell me the truth. Being that I’m a judge of souls, my temper flares when they lie to my face. I knew he was more than human, but he held tight to his secret and wouldn’t confess to me what he was.

All the dramatics and scene with Drevi didn’t matter.

After all, I have quirks myself, but honesty is a must.

If he were to ask me if I was more than mortal I would answer him truthfully.

Lost in my thoughts, I step out of the elevator and I’m just about to slide my keycard into the lock when a familiar scent overpowers my nose.

My mind was still reeling from dinner and I failed to see the trail of flowers leading to my suite.

I slump down to the floor as my back leans on the wall for support. Millions of thoughts consume me.

Do I make my escape back to the Underworld? Confront that asshat hiding in my room? Call Lainie or Warrick?

My head feels as if it’s going to explode as a shadow sends me into darkness. My gaze falls on Frank’s handsome face.

“Don’t you have a bar to tend?”
