“I’ve kissed my sister and my mom. They’re girls.”

“I meant someone other than family.”

He shook his head. “Have you ever kissed anyone besides family?”

She shook her head. “I want to know why they make such a big deal of it in the movies.”

Jimmy took a sip of his soda and wiped his mouth. “I’m not sure this is a good idea.”

“You like me, don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Then kiss me.”

Jimmy rushed in, knocking his forehead against hers. “Ouch.”

Grace rubbed her head.

They tried again.

Jimmy went in with his mouth wide open. They hit teeth.

Grace put her hand on his face. “That’s not how they do it in the movies.” She explained what to do and then took the lead. They kissed, closed mouthed and then tried touching tongues. “Ewe!” Grace jumped up and ran to the bathroom. “Why do they think that’s fun?”

“I don’t know. It was like kissing Kay until you stuck out your tongue.”

Grace returned. “Well, I’m glad we got that out of the way.”

“I’m not going to be your boyfriend,” Jimmy said.

“But you’ll still be my best friend, right?”

“Of course. Just no more kissing.” He shuddered.

“Yeah, no more kissing.”

“Let’s watch the game,” Jimmy suggested.

The channel was pre-programed, so all she had to do was hit the button. “Do you think Walker and Kay kiss?”

“Each other? I don’t think so.”

“She held his hand.”

He nodded.

“I think Walker likes her.”

He shrugged and began talking stats.

“Jimmy, I think we need to get Walker and Kay together so I don’t have to leave here, and we can always be best friends.”

“You think you’ll have to leave?”

“If Walker gets traded, we might.”

“I don’t want you to leave,” Jimmy looked at her. “We could get married.”
