“Maybe ifshehadn’t been in the way, I wouldn’t have hit her. You ever think about that?”
I shook my head at the prick. “And now you want her dead.”
“Yes. Kill her and be done with it.” He smiled. “I’m going to enjoy watching the chief of police’s son commit murder.”
Kinsley moaned behind the tape. She kicked and tried to move.
“Can I get that piece?” I asked the guy with the gun.
He nodded and handed it over.
I ripped off Kinsley’s blindfold and her head whipped around until she could focus on me. Kneeling in front of her, I let the tip of the gun drag over her face while tears rolled down her cheeks.
“Not so mouthy now, are you? Finally quiet. Going to be quiet forever.” I stood and pressed my lips to her forehead. “I love you.”
I spun around and held the gun up at Barrett. “You piece of shit really thought I could kill the love of my life? You’re dumber than you look.” Barrett’s jaw dropped.
“What are you doing? Kill her.” When he saw I wasn’t moving, he raised his hands and nodded to the guy in black. “Get him.”
The man pulled a gun off the table and held it up at Barrett. “Keep your hands up.” He got behind Barrett and grabbed his arms, holding them behind him. The pipsqueak tried to get away, so the guy had to use his force, punching him in the back of the head to get him to comply. Laying on his body, the guy used zip ties to handcuff Barrett. “You’re under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder and I’m sure they’ll also get you on that hit-and-run, too, as well as covering it up.”
“What the fuck?”
I quickly ripped the tape off Kinsley’s mouth while the officer continued reading Barrett his rights. Four more FBI agents entered. I kissed my woman, brushing her hair back off her face.
“I love you, George.” She eyed the officer trying to undo the tape on her hands. “Did you get them?”
“Yes, ma’am. We got them. We got them all. Prisoners won’t take kindly to police chiefs and mayors on the inside.” The agent smirked.
As soon as her body was freed, she jumped into my arms, and I cradled her against me. “I love you, Sins. We did it. You’re safe now.”
“I’m safe with you.”
“Uh, we need that, um, audio, sir.” The agent stood and held out her hand while politely not staring at my crotch.
“Oh. Yeah, hang on.” I dropped Kinsley for a moment, turned around and dug into my boxer briefs. I pulled out the wire and recording device the agents had given me before dinner. “Sorry, it’s a little, um, sweaty.”
Kinsley jumped back into my arms.
“Do you two need a ride?” one of the FBI agents asked. I held my girl against me as we walked out to the unmarked government car. Rubbing my hands rapidly over her arms, I tried to keep her warm.
“Ma’am. You’ll have to sit in the seat with a seatbelt,” the officer instructed Kinsley once we were in the backseat. I didn’t want to let her go, but reluctantly let her slide over to the seat next to mine. We held hands until we reached the manor.
“And Gianna?” Kinsley said as I led her inside the house. Once we were in the foyer, Xavier walked down the staircase with his signature smirk.
“She’s um…” I glanced at my best friend.
“I think she moved. To another country. Far, far away. Not anywhere close to here,” Xavier said nonchalantly as he waltzed past us into the kitchen.
“Oookay. I don’t want to know.”
I nodded. “Let’s get you upstairs.”
Once we reached my room, I threw her little body on the bed like I loved to do. She was so pliable. I jumped on top of her, but before I could kiss her, she said, “I can’t believe our plan worked! They ate it up!”
I nibbled her neck. “Yeah.”
“Gianna never suspected anything. I thought I did a great job with the acting. And Aaron’s video didn’t even need to be used, I guess.”
