Quickly, I obeyed. I held my girl as we chatted about everything until the early morning hours. We discussed what sexual activities we would feel comfortable with, or what scenarios Gianna may put us in. We devised a strategy to take her down, but I was much less confident in our plan than Kinsley.

Kinsley wanted to hide a camera in her backpack and set it up in the room to video Gianna. She thought we could get Gianna to confess she had been blackmailing my father and had hurt me as a teenager.

Gently, I questioned her plan. Even if we caught a confession on camera, who could I hand it over to? My father? He’d never let the footage of his own son and ex-wife come out like that. He’d rather it stay in the dark than risk his reputation. I would do it anyway if we got the right confessions from her. I had to try something.

Our conversation moved from Gianna to our fathers. I kept things vague about Chief Turner’s work, but shared a few stories from my vault. Kinsley held me as I told her things even Xavier didn’t know. I talked about my mom, about the day she left us.

Kinsley told me about her recovery after her wreck in the hospital and her father’s pressures on her. She confessed she felt responsible for her parent’s divorce.

“That’s ridiculous,” I said, as we lay on our sides, facing each other.

“Almost as ridiculous as an eight-year-old boy blaming himself for his mother leaving?”

For a long time, I stayed silent. Boys were supposed to listen to their mothers. “She told me it was.”

“Well, your mom sounds like a complete cunt.” Kinsley paused. “Sorry.”

“No, she is. She blames me for everything.” Stroking her chocolate hair, I tucked a piece behind her ear.

“It wasn’t your fault, George. Your father is a wife beater, serial cheater, and all-around asshole. Your mother couldn’t put the blame where it belonged. It wasn’t safe for her to do that, but she should never have put it on you. She’s not your responsibility and their divorce wasn’t your fault. You were just a kid. And then your father let that…predatorrape you.” She turned over and pushed back into my waiting arms, gripping mine as I hugged her. “I don’t think I want to meet your parents, George. Not while I want to kill them both.”

“If I don’t take care of her, who will?”

“She’s an adult human. Maybe she needs to figure it out. You know what? On second thought, I do want to meet her. Take me to her now.”

A small smile crept over my face. Kins was in full fired-up mode. I could imagine the two of them going head-to-head in an all-out verbal spat; it would be like two hot suns colliding. All the words I had been missing seemed to flow so freely from her mouth. “Relax, princess. We can visit another time.” I kissed the top of her head and she settled as I held her.

As the night progressed and we talked, I’d never felt closer to anyone. I knew I could never be without her. Kinsley was becoming a necessity in my life. I’d never talked with anyone as much as I had with her. Each word I spoke out loud felt like it was patching up old wounds I didn’t even know I had.

“You followed me.” She spoke quietly as the sun was peeking under her bedroom blinds.

“Yeah.”

“Why?”

“I had to make sure you were safe. After the tires, I knew you were in danger. I love you, princess. Gotta watch out for my girl.” When I wrapped my arms tighter around her, she fell asleep, and I drifted off peacefully, too.

It was several days before I got the text from Gianna. Kinsley and I had been hanging out in my room at the manor studying after spending the morning in bed making love. That’s what it was. That cosmic energy exchange between our auras? It was love making. As much as the girl liked to irritate me by calling me ‘Big G’ at times, she wasmygravitational constant. I’d never felt safe or grounded with anyone until her.

“It’s game time,” I said to her, standing to kiss her on the cheek.

“Can you even get it up after this week?”

Taking a step back, I stood with my hands on my hips. “Jesus, Sins. I’m twenty-one years old, not seventy-five. I can get it up again, yes.” Quieter, I said, “Only with you there, though.”

“I’m just saying, I feel sore from the last few days of sexcapades. Didn’t know if your rod was raw.”

“Only because you’re so fucking tight, yeah. Come on. She’ll start bugging me if we’re not there soon.” To say my nerves were at an all-time high was still an understatement. Despite going over the gameplan several times, I was weary to go.

Kinsley grabbed her backpack, making sure the camera was well hidden and in place. Then we were on our way.

Once we arrived, I put her little body protectively behind me and knocked on the door.

“No girlfriend?” Gianna’s eyes narrowed in annoyance when she opened the door. Kinsley peered around me. “Oh, there you are, precious! Come in!” Gianna grabbed Kinsley’s hand and pulled her into the room. After shutting and locking the door, I strode over to grab Kinsley’s backpack from her, setting it on the dresser at the right angle.

“Well, well. No wonder Georgie has been hiding you. You’re beautiful. Kinsley, right?”
