Gianna

Meet me now.

A moment passed, then another came through.

And bring your girlfriend *kissy face emoji*

Fuck.

“What was that?” Kinsley woke up and looked behind her.

“Uh, I gotta get going.”

“I thought we were going to sleep here.”

“Um, something came up. I have to head out. Come on. I’ll warm up the truck for you.”

“George… What is going on?”

After I gathered up the sleeping bag, I held out a hand to help her down from the truck bed. As casually as I could, I shrugged. “What do you mean?”

“You keep getting these texts and then have to go suddenly. Is there someone else? Are you secretly married or have a child or something?”

“Wha-? No. Sorry, I just need to leave.”

Kinsley wasn’t buying it, and I didn’t blame her.

We loaded into the truck, and I blared the heat for her. Making my voice as casual as possible, I tried to engage her in conversation the entire way back to her apartment, but she was silent for once.

It was the worst sound in the world.

Staring out the window, she would grunt a reply here and there. At one point, she reached over to my radio and turned up the volume. Once I pulled up to her apartment complex, she didn’t hesitate. She jumped fromSerenitywithout even looking back as I called out to her. She slammed the passenger door and bolted toward her building without a glance behind her.

My phone buzzed with a call... Gianna.

“Yeah?”

“Are you coming? You better be here within the hour.”

“I was out of town. I’m on my way now.” I hung up on her. Cracking my neck, I put the truck in reverse before speeding towards Springfield. When I reached the motel lot, I let my forehead rest on the steering wheel for a few moments, trying to gather the strength to make it inside. Taking a deep breath, I slid out and made my way to the room.

“Well, where is she?” Gianna threw open the door wearing high heels and a short, silky pink robe. Probably nothing else on underneath.

I sighed and stared at the threadbare carpet. There were so many stains it looked to be part of the pattern.

“I didn’t ask her.”

“So then you want to give me a baby?” She slammed the door behind me and locked it.

Roughly running a hand through my hair, I pulled it out of the elastic. “No.”

“Those were your options. I’m running out of time for another pregnancy. You’re off the hook tonight. I thought I was ovulating, but the test was negative. You missed your window this month.”

My shoulders relaxed.

“But, there’s always next month!” She patted my chest.

“So either I get Kinsley here for a threesome, or you want me to impregnate you?”
