To my surprise, she only nodded her understanding and looked at me with fear in her eyes. “I just don’t want anyone to take me away from you—from this. We’re on the right track and I don’t want anything to ruin that.”

Returning her earnestness, I reached over and gently cradled her opposite cheek, allowing my thumb to stroke her chin as I showed her my resolve. “Nobody will. You have my word. I don’t care what it takes, we will be together, Lydia. You are my mate, and nothing will ever change that.”

Through our eye contact, a mutual understanding seemed to move between us. We were a team, and regardless of what might cross our path, we were going to see it through to the other side together.

Despite the tender newness of our connection, it was still just as strong. Our souls were bound together, and as some believed, we were made for each other.

But even as Lydia seemed mostly reassured by my words, a slight hesitance scattered across her cheeks. My brows furrowed lightly in response. “What’s wrong?”

As she took me in, studying my face, Lydia swallowed hard. “It’s just that…I have another reason to be more afraid of Jack interfering.”

Lifting a brow, silently letting her know I was listening, I stayed quiet.

She pulled in a brave breath and came out with it. “I haven’t confirmed it yet or anything, but I think I might be…pregnant.”

I blinked back at her as the initial surprise overcame me, unable to find the proper words at first. But as I sensed her sincerity, that genuine happiness broke through the surface, and I smiled at her in disbelief. “Really?”

She mirrored my gentle smile back at me, relaxing from my reaction. She nodded. “I think so. I’ve been feeling nauseous, and as far as I know, the timeline checks out.”

I softened from her every word, allowing that reality to settle in completely. Letting go of a surprised chuckle, I pull her in for a hug, overjoyed by the news. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around me and eased into the embrace.

“That’s incredible news, Lydia,” I hummed to her, holding her close to let her feel just how overjoyed I was. Pulling back enough so I could look at her as I cradled her face, warmed by the way her smile reached her eyes. “We’ll see someone about it to confirm. But I sure hope it’s true.”

As if finally able to let go of the last of her defenses, Lydia looked completely at ease, and every trace of her resistance from before ebbed away. It was almost like watching her reach a revelation that erased any remaining traces of doubt she may have had about us.

“I know we didn’t start this bond in the best place, but to me, it doesn’t matter what preconceived notions existed between us. What matters now is how we move forward,” I said, gently stroking her cheeks. “You’re my mate, Lydia, and it doesn’t matter who tries to get in the way of that. I’ve waited far too long to let it slip through my fingers, and as long as we’re on the same page, I intend to do everything I can to protect our bond, you, and the life you’re growing inside you.”

Happy, relieved tears filled her eyes as she looked back at me, acknowledging my words with a careful nod. “Whether I wanted to believe it or not before, it’s always been you, Sebastian.”

My inner wolf keened at her declaration in time with the tether pulling between us, and the feeling I always longed for consumed me at once.

I craved that closeness since I was young, both emotionally and physically. Knowing that Lydia was more than likely carrying our child, I couldn’t help but become aroused at the thought.

As I drank her in, reveling in the idea of my mate being pregnant, I glanced down at her lips. They drew me in, and I cut the space left between us without needing to think about it.

Kissing her urgently, I felt her hand press against mine and held her in place in response, and the moment she deepened the kiss, I knew there was no going back.

I wanted her, and that was the only catalyst I needed.

Chapter 20 - Lydia

The force and raw emotions behind his kiss made my head spin.

A shiver of excitement scurried down my spine as he held me close, drawing out a breathless sound from me. His lips were demanding yet pliable, eager but still caring in how they embraced mine.

The sensation of his hands on me as they explored, sneaking beneath the fabric of my top to brush against my skin, was enough to make me compliant in his grasp. In that moment, nothing else outside of us and our connection mattered. Only the two of us existed, and his affection allowed me to forget about everything else.

“I’m sorry it took me this long to notice—to be made aware,” Sebastian murmured against my lips as he kissed me harder, running his fingers through my hair while his opposite hand was buried under the waistband of my bottoms while his fingers stroked my heat, curling as he pumped them inside me. His words dripped with his pure desire and stirred my longing as he hovered above me, alternating between kissing my lips and my neck.

Hazy and warm all over with my back against the mattress, head in the pillows, I swallowed dryly as a breathless moan left me. “You should be…”

Despite his own nearly debilitating lust surrounding him, Sebastian chuckled against my neck and pressed a gentle kiss there. “You’re right…and I intend to show you just how sorry I am.”

In the suffocating heat of the room, as Sebastian gave me his unfettered attention, my breaths were shallow as I focused on the addicting pumps of his fingers, sensual and cloudy. Hispace was slow and deliberate, giving me vague relief yet driving me even crazier.

Even if I wanted more, I couldn’t bring myself to claim it. Those slow strokes had me completely disarmed and complacent, prepared to allow Sebastian to keep his word and soak up every moment of it.

As Sebastian continued his attention on my heat, acquiring more than enough arousal to slick my inner thighs, he used his free hand to bunch up the fabric of my top, effortlessly moving my bralette as he began leaving kisses down the valley of my breasts.
