“You’re poison, Vallie. To the bone. You’re just sad because nobody fucking likes you, let alone loves you. Not for your status, not for your name, and definitely not for the person you are. Killing you, whenever that day comes, is going to be the best day of my life.” The words are dark yet light on my tongue. I don’t even know what I’m saying or where it’s coming from, but I get the sense my wolf is way more invested in killing this bitch than I am.
“Get her out of here,” Cassian grunts, and I smirk, ready to wave this cunt off, but to my utter surprise and horror, it’s me that’s being carted from the room.
“Put me the fuck down, Kryll. Right now,” I snarl as he spins me, tossing me over his shoulder despite my best efforts.
“It’s for the best, Addi. You’ll thank me for it later,” he promises, but the words go right over my head because they’re a load of crap, just like Vallie and her shit.
I will never thank him for pulling me away from her. Over my dead fucking body. Although, preferably hers.
The audience doesn’t register in my brain as Kryll stalks to the exit, and just before we step out of the room, Vallie gets the last fucking word.
“That’s right, take your bitch for a walk. She needs one.”

Kryll ignores my protests as he heads outside, taking the long way around to our first class. The second my feet touch the ground, I point my finger at him.
“Don’t ever do that to me again!” My chest heaves as the words part my lips, but as I stare into Kryll’s expectant gaze, my fury wanes.
Fuck.
Swiping a hand down my face, I turn away.
“And don’t do that either,” I grumble, trying and failing to take a deep breath.
“I have no idea what else I just did, Princess, but?—”
“Don’t call me that. I’m mad at you,” I interject, still refusing to look at him, but it’s pointless. I’m already softening, despite the demand from my wolf to barge back in there and tear that bitch to shreds.
“Are you mad at me?”
The question comes from Raiden. There’s a pointed look on his face as he assesses me and my shoulders slump when my eyes meet his.
“No.”
“Good. Then I’ll be the one to tell you that he did the right thing. I know you want her gone—shit, so do I—but I was certain you were about to shift and tear her throat out.”
“I don’t see a problem with that,” I bite, my wolf right back at the surface again, and he understandably takes a step back.
With his hands raised in surrender, he opens his mouth to speak, but I wave him off. Turning away from him forces me to come face to face with Cassian instead.
Why are there so goddamn many of them?
His eyes stare deep into mine, holding me hostage as I will my breathing to level out. He takes a slow step toward me, then another, and another, until we’re toe to toe. Just as slowly, he lifts his hand to cup my cheek.
“It’s okay, wolf. She’s safe. The rage isn’t needed… yet,” he murmurs, making me frown, but to my surprise, each breath becomes easier as my wolf simmers down inside of me. He must sense the shift because a victorious grin spreads across his face. Irritated by his glee, I whack his hand away and step back. “You’re welcome,” he grumbles with a raised brow, leaving me reeling with more agitation. I feel like I’m one step away from stomping my foot and sticking my tongue out at him.
“It’s okay, Dagger. Your wolf is new, and she’s going to want to protect you. Not just from physical threats, but verbal ones too. Besides, we all know Vallie is a bitch.” My gaze snaps to his, nostrils flared in irritation, and he lifts his hands in surrender. “Not that it justifies anything. Her death is coming, and her blood is yours, you just have to make sure it’s done at the right time for the right reasons,” he finishes with a shrug, like we’re not talking about killing someone right now.
I sigh, dipping my head so my chin rests on my chest.
If I want to be the heir of the kingdom, I can’t go around killing people just because they piss me off. That’s obscenely controlling and something The Council would do. I refuse to belike them. I can’t. If things are going to change, they need to start with me. Not just in the words I promise but in the actions I take too. Otherwise, the role won’t ever be mine, and it has to be.
“Thank you,” I rasp, using all my strength to lift my head and face Kryll. A soft smile ghosts his lips as he nods.
“No thanks necessary. Honestly, it was more for me than you. My dragon was one step away from doing the exact same thing,” he explains, eliminating the distance between us. The second he’s within arm’s reach, he engulfs me in his arms, squeezing me tight for good measure before releasing me again.
