Page 136 of My Forbidden Alpha

“And you’re not, Alpha,” she mocks, tracing her fingers over one dark hickey.

“I like it. You’re pretty wild,” I murmur, pulling her close. Her heart skips a beat as she looks into my eyes. I lean closer, about to kiss her, when there is a loud knock on the door. I growl in irritation, but the door is opened to a worried-looking Rafael. It is clear from his tousled hair he had been asleep.

“Sorry to bother you, Elijah but Alpha Jackson’s on the phone,” he says, wincing at the shouting that is coming through the phone, then realising our position looks even guiltier.

“Fuck…” I swear, motioning for him to come over and take the phone from him.

With everything that has happened, I forgot to ring Dad. I had borrowed Rafael’s phone earlier to log into my Cloud account and wipe my phone, which I had dropped at Zidane’s place amidst the fighting, not wanting to risk him getting his hands on it, but not once did I think to contact Dad. “Dad! Chill. Why the fuck are you shouting? I lost my phone-”

“Don’t give me that shit, Elijah! Where’s Scarlett? I felt a wolf’s pack-link break and only the two of you were unaccountable for.” Dad’s panic is clear in his voice.

Shit.

“Dad, she’s fine,” I say. Scarlett’s face is pale, clearly realising what had happened. An alpha marking someone would cause their pack-link to break.

“For fuck’s sake, put her on then! I need to hear her voicefor myself.” Dad’s voice is filled with a desperation and fear that I have never heard before. Scarlett sits up and quickly takes the phone from me.

“Dad, I’m okay,” she assures him.

Rafael’s eyebrows shoot up and I just frown at him. Yeah, I know it’s fucking complicated. He raises his hands in surrender before running his hand through his hair.

“Scarlett, Scarlett, are you really, okay? Your mother and I were so worried.”

“Don’t worry, Dad, we’re ok. And we’ll be home soon, I promise,” she says softly.

“A lot has happened, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence. We aren’t sure what’s going on, but I am glad that you’re safe,” Dad sighs.

Jessica’s mark. It must have disappeared at the same time as the pack-link broke, but I don’t think they’ve made the connection, or they wouldn’t be so calm. Then again, a father doesn’t typically fucking mark his own daughter.

“We’ll be home soon. I’m sorry for not letting you know.” Scarlett glances at me. She sounds guilty when this shit isn’t even her fault.

“I’m glad… just, you kids really need to stay in touch,” Dad grumbles. “Is your brother treating you well?”

“Yes…” Scarlett blushes and I make the fucking mistake of looking at the asshole in front of me, who nods.

‘Oh, for sure,’ Rafael mouths at me, making me give him the middle finger. Prick.

“Good… that’s good. Get some rest, it’s late dear,” Dad says.

“I will, thanks, Dad,” Scarlett says, hanging up. She looks at me and then glances at Rafael. For a second, she pauses, staring at me, as she pales, and I’m certain she tried to mind-link me. “You should fill in your alpha friend. He seems to have questions,” she says quietly as if not wanting me staring at her.

“Oh no, I…” Rafael trails off under Scarlett’s intense stare and he instead flashes her a smile. “Yeah, sure.”

“I already told you shit,” I growl.

“Na, you barely scratched the surface,” he points out.

“Did I ever tell you, you’re annoying?”

“Countless times, so I’m all ears whenever you’re ready. By the way, Scarlett, I’m glad to see you’re awake.”

Elijah

“El, as muchas you want to throttle me right now, take a look at her,” Rafael remarks quietly, making me turn my gaze on Scarlett thinking he’s simply trying to distract me until I see her face. My stomach twists at how pale she is.

“Fuck, Red, you okay?” I murmur, cupping her face. She blinks as if in a daze.
