“AH! Really?! See honey! I was right!”
“Seriously?” he seems baffled, but at the same time, he looks intrigued. “It always made me wonder how a male could write such emotional music when we mostly think with our cocks.”
“Dad,” Kai groans. “Why are you insulting us?”
“It’s true,” his dad huffs. “I think with my cock all the time, so there’s no way I can write emotional shit about love and heartache. Your mother can do that when I do something stupid, and she’s ready to divorce me.”
“I would never,” she hums sweetly, but her grin tells me otherwise. “You know I don’t need to threaten divorce to make your heart break.”
“Diabolical,” Kai mutters in horror.
“Your mom is scary,” I whisper in return.
He nods. “Yeah, she is. That’s why the opposing enemies don’t play around with us. It’s not because of our dad. It’s because of her.”
“Really?”
“Mhmm.”
“I’m not surprised in the slightest.”
“You realize we can hear you, yes?” his father scolds, making Kai clear his throat as he takes my hand once more.
“And that’s our cue to leave,” he declares.
“After you get your guitar from your room.”
“Wait, it’s in my room?” Kai asks his father in surprise.
“Mhmm,” he responds and looks to his wife as she smiles lovingly at us. “I figured it was the best place to keep it safe for when you return. We didn’t change anything in there, so you’re fine,” she assures us. “Go and check. We’ll wait for you two to depart before we resume our duties.”
Kai nods his head, and I can see he’s trying not to be emotional.
“Thank you, Mom and Dad,” he whispers and bows his head.
“It’s good to have you back, my son,” his father acknowledges.
“We missed you, our son,” his mother adds and looks my way. “Welcome to our family, Astraea. We’re honored to have you.”
“Th-Thank you,” I whisper and bow my head in respect.
Kai leads the way once more, and the two of us arrive at a room that’s decorated like a teenage boy. Various sentimental things hang on the wall, from posters of various artists, games, pictures from his youth and young adulthood, and various medals.
It doesn’t take any time to see the electric guitar that’s encased in glass in the corner of the room. It looks so symbolic with how the sunlight is lightly peering onto its slick beauty from the slightly opened blinds.
“It’s been a long while,” Kai whispers as he lets go of my hand to admire it. “They made sure you didn’t collect an ounce of dust, huh?”
I watch the moment as he takes in the room before he gathers the instrument and everything he needs.
When he zips up the case and throws the guitar over his shoulder, he turns back to acknowledge me.
“Thank you, Astraea.”
Seeing how emotionally moved he is, I take the few steps needed to be before him as I go on my tiptoes to press my hands along the top part of his chest.
“No, thank you for gathering the courage to return here,” I whisper in praise. “Look at how my Alpha has succeeded. I’m so proud of you.”
I don’t know if it’s the way I look at him or my words of praise, but the first set of tears fall while he leans down to lay a tender kiss on my lips.
