What matters is me being confident in who I am in this world and walking in that truth, no matter the good or bad.
I’m so caught up in my decision that I don’t realize we’re here until the bike comes to a complete stop.
Leaning back from Kai’s back, I gasp at the massive Japanese temple before us.
“Wow,” I say in awe as Kai gets off his bike and takes his helmet off.
As if that’s a cue, multiple men in black emerge and immediately bow in Kai’s presence while a woman in an all-white suit walks toward us.
Kai offers his hand to me, helping me get off the bike before I slip the helmet off.
Despite my attire of black leather tights, a black bralette, and a black leather jacket, I feel way underdressed in such an environment.
“????, Young Master.”
I frown at the words, my brain trying to translate, but my Japanese isn’t very good. I know the basics, but it’s not a language I’m strong in, especially when I learned the tidbits from dramas when Kamari went on a binge marathon of Japanese dramas. Then she moved on to Korean, and that binge hasn’t ended yet.
“Good day, Cami,” Kai greets, squeezing my hand. “Can you kindly speak English out of respect for my guest?”
She briefly looks my way, her eyes taking me in from head to toe. She specifically takes a few added seconds to acknowledge my short hair. I’m sure she’s probably judging the color that is out of the ordinary in combination, but I don’t cower to her gaze when her eyes lock with mine.
We’re having a staring contest, and I’m not sure if she’s an Omega herself, but there’s this instructive need not to back down.
To prove I’m no scaredy cat in this intimidating environment of uncertainty.
“Very well, Young Master,” she finally replies while maintaining our tense eye contact. “Good day to you, Miss.”
“Miss Soleil,” I introduce with a respectful tone. I don’t want to be bitter, despite not liking the vibes she’s giving. “Pleasure to meet you.”
She smiles slightly, but I can tell it doesn’t reach her eyes. Truthfully, I don’t care if she doesn’t approve of me. I feel like it shouldn’t matter who she is, seeing as Kai’s the one standing at my side, holding my hand confidently.
“Likewise,” she ends up saying, though her eyes finally peel away from me and return to Kai. “Did you make an appointment, Young Master? Your arrival wasn’t expected.”
“No, I didn’t,” he says firmly. “I doubt I need an appointment to see my own parents.”
“Yes,” she admits and bows her head. “My apologies, Young Master. Right this way.”
Parents? Holy shit. This temple is Kai’s house?
I’m trying not to be nervous, but fuck. I would have at least dressed up a bit nicer than looking like some sort of hooker with the all-black vibe. At least, I’m sure that’s what his parents will probably think of me.
I decide not to focus on it since there’s no way of changing into something more “appropriate” with us already here and heading to meet his apparent parents. I’m trying to figure out why he’d even bring me here, but it’s not long before we’re walking down a beautiful pathway of stained glass that decorates the ground, which shifts into a bridge of pink, purple, and blue pebbles.
The archway hovers over a little pond of various fish, the exotic view proving that these creatures within the water are various rare ones that had to be imported here to co-exist in these maintained waters.
The alluring beauty of nature, mixed with the red pillars and design of the temple, gives traditional Japanese vibes I’ve seen in movies or anime shows. To see that it’s so well maintained here makes my heart warm.To preserve your traditions and culture seems like a privilege not many get to achieve here in America, so it makes me feel happy that Kai doesn’t need to lose this part of his life and culture.
When we reach a set of doors, we’re instructed to take off our shoes, which we do. Before entering, we bow our heads as a bell is rung. I can’t grasp the sentiment of it, but Cami’s voice follows.
“My Lord and my Majesty. You have special guests.”
“They may enter,” a deep voice declares, allowing us to walk into the massive space.
Now, I’m trying not to look so amazed and baffled as I take in the two individuals sitting on the floor in traditionalgarments. The male looks like an older Kai, only his hair is double in length, tied in a ponytail, yet I can assume it’s long enough to reach the floor they’re kneeling on.
The woman sitting next to him steals my attention away. The mesmerizing essence of beauty in her gaze as she’s decorated in the finest silks and golden jewelry leaves me speechless. She’s wearing an elegant, rich kimono mixed with red, gold, and various pink shades, while her skin is so pale, I can’t tell if it’s her natural shade or if her foundation is flawlessly that color.
Her red lips seal the look, while her glimmering eyes of surprise and actual excitement make me feel less nervous. She’s beaming with a smile in a heartbeat before she rises up.
