“Being a parent is the hardest job you’ll ever do, but it’s worth it. I love you son, but stay away from my wife.”
“She was my wife first,” Liam says. I know he’s joking. They seem to relish teasing each other about our odd triangle. I could live without it, but our past is what it is. We can’t change it, and I wouldn’t. Laughing is a much better alternative to yelling, so I’ll live with it.
I loved Liam once, but now I know it was young love. It was never meant to last, and we were just too stubborn to see that when we were teenagers. But, it brought Griffin into my life, so I’d go through all the bumps again to be where I am.
“Yeah, well I’m the one who is giving her babies,” Griffin grumbles, and then smiles.
Liam’s eyes widen, and I know we’re going to be okay when his face lights up. “Really? Again?”
Griffin smiles and nods.
“Can I have a brother this time, mom?” Liam teases me.
I slap him on the arm. “The two of you are too much.”
Charlie saunters over with Natalie in his arms. “This little one is a chick magnet. She’s even better than you were, Liam.”
“Stop using my daughter to pick up chicks,” Liam chides, but there’s no heat in his words.
He takes Natalie from him. Charlie just reaches out for Parker. “You’ll help uncle Charlie meet women, won’t you, angel?”
“C’mon, Liam. Let me introduce you to the new Kindergarten teacher. She loves babies, and she’s got kind of a naughty librarian vibe.”
“I thought you were interested in Wren’s aunt?” Liam asks, confused.
Charlie winks at me before turning back to Liam. “Oh, I am. I don’t want you to be a grouchy old bastard like your dad was for so long. We need to get you a woman. This little angel is going to go say hi to aunt Hattie and help uncle Charlie make that shit official.”
The two of them stroll off, scheming as usual. I groan when they’re out of earshot. “That’s what we need, more tangled webs in this family.”
Griffin grabs my hand. “C’mon, we have time for a quickie while he’s got Parker.”
“That’s what you said about the day we moved into our new house,” I groan.
He smirks at me, his eyes glittering with amusement. “And yet you’re still following me.”
“Haven’t you figured out by now? I’ll follow you anywhere,” I promise him.
His eyes heat. “Good, so follow me into the woods, baby bird. Daddy needs some attention.”
Just as I said that day in the storage closet, the day that sealed my fate, “Yes, daddy.”
Griffin hums in approval. “Good girl.”
Epilogue 2
GRIFFIN
“Don’t you think a bouncy house was a bit much?” Wren asks me.
I grimace. “If you think that was too much, then you’re really going to lose your shit over the pony.”
Her eyes widen. “A pony? You rented a pony?”
I shrug. “Rent, buy. Semantics.”
“You bought her a pony?” she shrieks.
“My little princess is ten today. How many times is that going to happen?” Yes, I spoil my baby girl rotten. There were so many things I couldn’t do for Liam when he was little, and I love spoiling them, so I do.
