There was a hesitance in her blue eyes. I kissed her, slowly mating my tongue with hers. My heart hammered in my chest.
She moved on top of me, working us both toward climax. Every movement she made dragged across my piercings sending a jolt down my cock and causing my balls to pull in tight. My hands latched on to either side of her waist, and though she was on top I used my strength to pull her down while I thrust my hips up to meet her.
The closer her orgasm got, the more her walls dropped. I saw it then. Hope. Maybe she wasn't as unaffected as I feared.
We filled the vacant office floor with the combined sounds of our lovemaking. Jana was loud when she came. The sound of her shouting my name triggered my own orgasm. My own shout ripped from my throat as I spilled inside of her.
I held her tight to my chest as we came down from the high. This is what I needed. Not the fucking, although I wanted it, but I needed time with her.
An idea came to me. I'd been going about convincing her to give our marriage a real shot the wrong way. She needed to get to know me, and in order to do that we needed space from all the people in our lives.
"I've got to go on a business trip," I said, breaking the silence.
Her shoulders slumped. "Oh. I understand."
I was encouraged by the sound of disappointment in her voice. "Yeah, Beck can't go back to the factory in Germany with Evie on bedrest."
She nodded. "Of course, that makes sense."
I tipped her chin up with my finger when she lowered her eyes away from me. "I'd like for you to go with me. I know you aren't my assistant, but you'll be working on the marketing campaign when we roll out the line of cars. I thought it might help for you to go see it in production."
There's no way she didn't see through my weak reasoning, but the pretense allowed her to accept and continue to believe we were a business arrangement.
Now I just had to convince Beck we needed to drop in on our partners in Europe. By the time we returned, hopefully I'd have acquired my wife's heart.
TWENTY-ONE
JANA
"This isn't the way to the terminal," I said as the town car Colt hired drove past the departure gate at SeaTac airport.
"We're taking the company's jet," Colt said without looking up from his phone.
After our interlude in his office, Colt made calls and in less than an hour we were on our way to the airport. Bags were packed for us and waiting in the trunk of the car.
I'd wanted to discuss the trip with Colt, but he's been on the phone almost from the moment we put our clothes back on. Despite my efforts to convince myself I didn't have deep feelings for him, I found myself disappointed at the distance between us.
The car pulled up to a gate in front of AG's hangar. Colt slipped his phone into his suit coat and turned to look at me. "Sorry about that. There were several details that needed to be seen to before we take off."
"I thought this was a trip Beckett had to back out of. Couldn't the arrangements for him just be transferred to us?"
His eyes lowered, and I suspected he was up to something. "Colt, what aren't you telling me?"
"Don't be mad," he began.
I narrowed my eyes. "Nothing good ever starts like that."
Colt reached out and grabbed my hands. My stupid heart thumped at the contact.
He inhaled and squeezed my hands before he started speaking. "I stretched the truth a bit about this trip."
My eyes narrowed, but I didn't try to pull my hands from his. "How much is a bit?"
He fidgeted in his seat. "Beck said we would have to go and visit them before too long, but he didn't plan to leave tonight. I'm sorry, but I wanted to get some time alone with you."
I should've been angry. After all, he deceived me and pulled me away from my work. My business might be under AG's banner, but it was still new and I needed to bring in outside clients. I wanted to contribute and help the company grow and not just become their in house advertising agency.
Yet, I couldn't find it in me to be pissed off. Despite growing up watching as my parents' marriage turned glacial, I'd managed to maintain a romantic optimism about my future. That ended after Malcolm used me.
