Her blue eyes latch on to mine. "Do you think I'm any different? If things were reversed, and it was your life on the line, do you really think I wouldn't do whatever was necessary to keep you safe? Protecting me doesn't make you a monster."
"I want to kill your father," I warn her. I'm not trying to push her away, but she needs to know exactly who she's married to. It's only fair, because the one person I can't protect her from is me. She deserves to have a choice.
As usual, she doesn't respond the way I expect. She shrugs one shoulder. "I'll help you dig a hole. The world will be a better place without him in it."
"I don't deserve you," I whisper.
“Well, you have me regardless." She sits down on the edge of the bed. "We aren't really going to sit around waiting for Grant to fix this, are we?"
"Waiting isn't something I'm good at, but we need to be smarter this time."
"You have a plan?"
I join her on the bed. "I've got the beginning of one."
Toying with the simple ring on her finger gives me an idea. "Do you want to break a few rules today?" For the first time since I woke up, I don't feel hopeless. The walls aren't closing in on me, and I'm not feeling trapped in another pretty prison owned by Damien Blackthorne.
Her face lights up. My little rebel likes any chance to cause trouble. "What did you have in mind?"
"Get dressed. We're sneaking out of here today."
