Page 33 of Peaceful Chaos

Jenna races ahead, cutting a few people off before they reach the front of the room. "Sorry," she says as she steps in front of one of our classmates. "My next class is all the way across campus and I really need caffeine. Do you mind?"

Lucky for her it's one of Ford's teammates, and he doesn't seem to be able to resist a tall blonde batting her doe eyes at him. He blushes and sweeps his hand in front of himself giving her permission to take his spot.

I expect him to glare at me, but he gives me a friendly smile instead. "Ford said you guys helped him recover from his shoulder injury."

My head bobs up and down, agreeing to the story Ford used to explain his absence to the team. "Yeah, he was really lucky it wasn't dislocated. I'm glad he's able to go back. He's been climbing the walls."

"The team really missed him." He smiles at me, but it falls when his eyes drop down to my left hand and see the engagement ring Sin bought for me nestled on top of my wedding ring. His eyes widen, and he abruptly turns around.

I suppress a chuckle and roll my eyes. Now I see why buying me expensive jewelry was so important to my possessive alpha-hole husband.

Jenna keeps checking the door and tapping her foot waiting for our turn to talk with our teacher. She must really need a caffeine fix. I totally understand, I'm barely human without coffee in the morning.

"Go ahead and go get your coffee. I'll get our topic and text you."

"Thank you," she gushes, and hurries out the door.

I wait my turn to speak to the professor, and by the time I'm done Sin is standing in the doorway waiting for me. "How was your first class?"

"Pretty tame. We've got a project to work on already. I've got to meet my partner in the library to do a research project." I twist my ring around my finger without thinking.

He moves forward, backing me up until I'm pinned against the wall. "What are you leaving out?"

I lick my lips. I haven't seen this side of him since before we were married. "It was nothing."

He plants both of his hands on either side of my head. "Let me judge that. Tell me," he insists.

"Just some football player. He really didn't do anything."

Sin's eyebrow raises, and he waits for me to continue.

I huff. "Really, it was nothing. He started talking to me, about nothing. How Ford was doing, like I said nothing. He saw my ring and stopped making small talk."

He drops his hands, one goes around my waist, and the other takes my left hand. He starts twirling my ring the way I had been. His dark eyes hold me entranced. "You know I was wrong all those times I tried to push you away."

"I tried to tell you," I breathe out.

He leans down and trails his nose along my neck. "I don't like being away from you. Not even for an hour. That's not normal."

I fist my hand in his shirt and pull his mouth to mine. "Fuck being normal. I like us the way we are."

"Even if I'm a possessive asshole? This ring—" he twirls it again. "It's more than a symbol of my love for you. I want everyone to see it and know you're mine."

I smirk at him. "Well, I'd say mission accomplished. Now we better get to class."

I textJenna when we get home and let her know our topic. She responds immediately.

Jenna: I'm free tonight, wanna meet at the library and get started?

Me: I don't think I can tonight. My husband is busy working.

Javier decidedto pull Sin and Lucien into the office he has at the complex to work through the security Damien has. They are the best source of information on his resources, and gives Chaos a leg up in going head to head with my father. I understand, but I'm not loving being stuck in the apartment.

Jenna: I don't know if I can make it work any other night. I've got a chem lab most of the week.

Me: Give me some time and I'll let you know.
