“Why don’t we go find out? We’re supposed to meet him right now.”
“Is this smart? We never make moves unless we’ve thought of every possible outcome. We don’t even know who we’re going to find in there. Besides, we’ve got enemies piling up, the last thing we need to do is search out new ones.”
“Raven and I struck out at finding anything on Damien when we were at the manor. If we don’t take some risks, we are never going to get out from under his control. You want to give my sister a normal life? Then we’re going to have to take it.”

The sun set hours ago,and Sin still hasn’t so much as texted me. I knew he was upset when he walked away from me this afternoon, but stupidly I didn’t think he’d go back to pushing me away. Six hours later and I have to admit that’s exactly what he’s doing.
Ford yawns and flips through the channels on the television. I place my hand over his stalling his mindless searching. “I’m a big girl. You don’t have to stay here and babysit me.”
He covers his mouth for another yawn. “I promised Lucien I wouldn’t leave you alone.”
Yanking the remote from his hand, I hit the power button. The room plunges into darkness. The moon provides a little bit of light in the room, but only enough to see the shape of each other. “Why hasn’t he come back?”
“Lucien needed him—”
I shake my head vigorously. “Do not tell me that Lucien needed him. It’s been hours. He could have sent me a message in that amount of time. I know what he’s doing.”
“Don’t jump to conclusions. You two need to talk and stop listening to all the bullshit swirling around you.”
“I’ll have to pin him down first.”
Bright lights dance around the room. “Looks like you won’t have to wait any longer. They’re pulling in now.”
The door connecting the house to the garage swings open, and Sin stumbles inside with Lucien following close behind him. “Look, my wife and my friend all cozy in the dark.” He looks over his shoulder at my brother. “You’re right, I had nothing to worry about. It’s not like they’ve fucked or anything.”
“You’re drunk. Go sleep it off. I’m not talking to you like this,” I say, deciding to wait for the talk we need.
“What’s the matter, princess, did you finally realize you shackled yourself to a monster? If you want to run off with Ford, I won’t stop you.”
“Fuck you,” I shout.
“You have, on numerous occasions. Looks like you’ve moved on. Don’t worry, sweetheart, I’ll do the same easily enough.”
“Don’t just stand there, jackass. Help me get him to bed before he destroys his life,” Ford orders my brother. Then he makes the mistake of grabbing Sin’s arm.
Sin explodes in a fit of anger, landing a punch to Ford’s stomach. Ford doesn’t stay down and manages to get a few hits in himself. The two of them scramble around on the floor before Lucien finally manages to pull them apart.
“Enough!” he bellows. “Sin, get the fuck to bed before you manage to say something you can’t take back.”
“I think that’s already happened.” I grope around on the countertop, since no one has bothered to turn on a light through the entire disaster. My fingers make contact with the strap of my purse, and I yank it towards me.
Grabbing my cell phone off the coffee table, I walk out the front door. Ford chases after me. I laugh bitterly. “Of course you’re the one to come for me.”
There’s a bruise blooming across his cheek, and he holds his arm across his abdomen. “Where are you going?”
My laughter becomes hysterical, and a few tears slip down my face. Their presence pisses me off, and I angrily swipe them away with the back of my hand. “I have no idea.”
He pulls his keys out of his pocket and turns toward his truck parked in the driveway. “Come home with me then.”
I shake my head. “I can’t do that. Not unless I’m sure I want my marriage to be over.”
“We both know it isn’t like that with us. I’ll take the couch. I’m not going to let you wander around Playa Pacifica alone.”
