"What are you thinking about, gramps?" Jana asked, coming up to my side.
"The future," I replied.
"And what do you see when you picture it?"
"A second chance," I replied vaguely.
"We could all use one of those," she agreed. "Looks like Beckett and Evie are making the most of theirs."
"They really are." They kissed as if no one was watching, as if the next moment wasn't guaranteed, because it wasn't. If I'd learned one thing, it was that life was too short to compartmentalize it. Sometimes you just had to mix business with pleasure.
