After showering and washing her hair, Cheri padded into the posh magazine-like living room where Victoria and Julio visited.

Obviously hearing her footsteps, Julio said, “Your mother is catching me up on the latest gossip in New York City.”

“You’re in Europe, Mom. How do you know what’s going on in Manhattan?”

Raising a perfectly arched, dark eyebrow, Victoria said, “Nothing gets by me, darling. Nothing.” She dusted fake crumbs off her hands. “Plus, I still have many friends in the city. They all love to talk.”

“Have you heard from Daddy?”

Victoria stared at the carpet. “I’m sorry, honey. Daddy texted. He has business in Rome. Some big board meeting. He said he simply can’t break away.”

Cheri’s forehead creased. “Not even to see his daughter?” Her emotions switched from sadness to anger. “How much more money does he need to make?”

“Darling. He provides a wonderful life for us. We can’t be too hard on him. He’s a workaholic, that’s all.”

Clapping his hands together, Julio stood. “I know just the place that will improve everyone’s mood.”

Both Victoria and Cheri said, “Where?”

Julio held both hands in the air. “The Moulan Rouge, of course. We can eat, drink, and be merry. We’ll have food, drinks, and entertainment at the same time.”

“By topless women,” Cheri said.

“Exactly.” Julio grinned.
