“I’ll scream.”
“Looking forward to it.”
“You’re sadistic.”
I flick my eyes up to hers. “You have no idea.”
I don’t know what she sees, but she instantly starts to hop down, and I have to put an arm out to stop her.
Chapter Ten
Sky
Ican’t believe I’m going to let Dr. Sadistic give me stitches. But honestly, I’m hoping that if he pulls this off, then the nurse won’t find out I’ve injured myself and contact my father. How bad can three sutures be, anyway? I have my ears pierced, if that’s comparable at all.
“Just do it quickly,” I say and look away from the curved needle he has pinched between his fingers.
“You want it done right, or done quick?” He looks up at me from beneath his lashes as he leans over my arm.
“Both,” I demand.
He chuckles, the sound sending bats through my stomach, and I seize up at his proximity as he wheels closer. He’s achingly beautiful in the bright medical light, and while he’s absolutely trouble—I decided this when I overheard him blackmail the headmistress—I focus on his face, anyway. I need all the distraction I can get, considering how stupid this is.
Cade’s dark brows bunch in concentration as I feel the first prick of the needle on my already tender skin, and I flinch.
“I said don’t move,” he growls without looking up.
“You try getting stitches from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing,” I hiss.
“Who says—” he pushes the metal through my skin without warning. “I don’t know what I’m doing?”
“Mmm,” I whimper, losing all thought, and bite down on my tongue.
“Now really, stay still,” he warns, and I give a tiny nod, unable to speak.
I focus on the way he sucks his bottom lip between his teeth, like perfect blades on a full and delicate pillow. Would my lip puncture under his bite? Would I even care? God, he’s the embodiment of everything I’ve had to avoid my whole life, and I’m practically salivating for a taste.
I’m not naive. I know there’s a reason I should stay away from him. I’ve been warned twice, once by Dorothy, and then by Cade himself, and I’m also not blind. This is the second time I’ve caught him coming out of the headmistress’s office. And for him to raise his voice with her? For him to have information on her that would be worthy of blackmail? That’s a blatant disregard for authority. Couple that with the tattoos and piercings, and he’s a storm that could drown someone like me.
He pushes the needle through the other side, and I’m met with a stinging lance that has me shooting out my free hand and latching onto his shirt. He stiffens, but I don’t let go. I can only be so strong on my own for so long.
When he starts the third stitch, a laugh bubbles up in the back of my throat. Maybe I’m going into shock, but this is ludicrous. I’m actually getting stitches from the most deranged guy I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, and if my father knew, he would surely disown me. Which, actually, wouldn’t be the worst thing, but it’s jarring how fast my dissent is taking place when I’ve only been free of him for two days.
“You okay?” Cade shoots me a look, raising his brow.
“Oh, yeah. I’m great.” I giggle. “Just letting a delinquent give me stitches.”
He suddenly stabs through my skin, more forceful than before. I quickly sober and yelp.
“What the fuck?” The profanity sputters from my lips without thought.
“Oops.” He shrugs. “Guess I’m just a delinquent.”
My amusement vanishes, and I narrow my eyes at him as he ties the last stitch, unaffected by my ire. What a dick. I quickly snatch my arm away once he’s done, not bothering to examine his handiwork, and push at him to wheel him out of my way.
“No thanks?” he hangs his head back and crosses his arms over his chest.
“For torturing me? I don’t think so,” I snap and stand.
